Evening all , I thought I better crack on with my Flag Barer - I have decided to make him a Voltiguer infantryman, normal procedure is to start working on the face and hands features followed by the Shako then the collar. OC.

I brought and assembled this kit back in 2014, back then my modeling situation was very basic and despite poor eysight (not quite as bad as now) I used no form of magnifiers just my reading glasses. Its the Dragon type 42 Destroyer kit and builds lovely out of the box, all of the extended batch 3 type 42s can be built from the kit by I decided to build the last of the group that had some mods on her including a bow wave extension of her hull. I saw her a few times in the flesh where we used to live and that influenced me in building her - but looking at my attempts from then using my optovisors I can see all the flaws - so I thought why not have ago to see if I can improve on what I built back then using the same kit - nothing drastic I will not be taking her apart or re painting - just doing a wee bit of a tidy up job under higher magnification. Here are a few pics including a photo I took of the real ship and a last pic as she was being made ready to be scapped and my old model shots. Hope this will be worth it. OC.

I quote from the the Official HMS Hood website - OC. Below Waterline: Precise information is lacking. The only confirmed colour is Peacocks & Buchan's antifouling grey in 1920 and 1925. For the remainder of the time period, no colour was specified. Additional details follow below. 1920-1936: As commissioned, Hood's bottom, to include the propeller shafts and rudder was anti-fouling grey (per ADM 136/13). Painting details are scarce, but she is also known to have had grey bottom paint in 1925. Based on the manufacturer used, we assume she remained grey, but we cannot rule out the possibility that Hood may have also had a black bottom during some periods. We are fairly confident that she was not red below her waterline. Wartime/As Sunk: We have no confirmed colour information. We assume Hood was still using anti-fouling grey based on her previous history and her wreck (the stern appears dark grey/faded black underneath and shows no sign of red). There is anecdotal evidence to suggest black was used, but its also possible that it was dark grey. Detailing Suggestion: Although she tended to have her bottom re-coated annually, the coating did get very worn over the course of the year. As a result, unless you are modelling Hood as "freshly painted" you might want to slightly lighten and/or weather the underside with a bit of grey. You can also add worn spots as well as chipping, barnacles and sea grasses if you so fancy.

I am doing some reading up on it as we speak Mark, would be good if any of our family on here might come forward with some insight into it as I guess we are all just guessing at the moment. OC.

You know Lou - I'm not sure, I was supprised to read that as I was under the Impression that Anti Fouling Red was a standard lower hull application throug out the Royal Navy and Red of different shades being normal with other navies - wonder what the logic/thinking behind Grey was? OC.

Yep, they work by looking for higher areas of contrast and detail. OC.

Yep, it's a shame they are not included with the Delux kits - but deffo worth getting (I found that out on my 1/350 HMS Warspite build) the wood decks just make all that difference. OC.

You know folks - I didn't realize how new this kit is - it was only released in May 21 and so far there have been no reviews of it. OC.

Some great work being done there mate, I have found the only thing you can do with the close focus is to try to focus slightly in front of the intended object as depth of field generaly extends further behind than in front. And what a great idea with the Acrylic glue (I will have to try and sorce that out for my Hood build) I already have their super glue but can see the benefit of the Acrylic. OC.

Those barrels look lovely, what do you use to drill out the plastic blast bag ends - a small drill bit in a pin vice? OC.
