  1. Thank you so much Denis - yep paint is a funny thing but I think I have it sussed now, the knee is still painful to touch (I go "ouch" when our dog jumps on my lap and puts her paws on my knee) but its ok to walk on. OC.
  2. Thats even better, do I spy a few scanners on the shelf (aircraft buff like myself)? OC.
  3. Welcome to the club Greg, as the others have said - there is lots and lots of useful info from some very talented builders. OC.
  4. Evening all, a tiny bit of progress today - I finished off another Voltigeur. OC.
  5. Just to add to everyones help - the Tamiya Acrylics are Not water based but use a different medium for thinning, I have been told if you have it Isopropyl is ok to thin the paint (but needs to be quite a high alcohol content one) OC.
  6. Superb job of the windows - infact the whole paint job so far, your skills make me envious, I remember this kit very well as I also built her when I was about 12 (but did a right hatchet job on her) Really loving these liners you are bringing back to life. OC.
  7. If we hear you have moved into the out house we will understand 😉 OC.
  8. Excellent work, I hope I can do my La Haye Sainte farm as much credit as you are doing with this - "Superb Skills" OC.
  9. Evening all, two more dudes finished in the shape of KGL 2nd light infantry. OC.
  10. Evening all, current situation - I am pleased with the finish now I have it sorted with a little help from my friends, so we have a battle starting to happen im about a tenth of the way there😲 OC.
  11. Thank you kindly Phil, yep the Perry ones are better than Victrix - especially the British ones. OC.
  12. Mark the secret was - putting up with the satin paint finish then spraying the clear flat coat over them with taimya clear laquare (as its brilliant - used it on my plane builds) then touching up any shiny bits when the top coat has dried - with me that was a few hours. EG suggested it - I owe him a drink. OC.
  13. Evening all, so first things first I tried a trick that EG told me - I gathered together the finished figures, found my Tamiya rattle can clear laquare and went in the garden (but remembering to close the door behind me) then I used my plastic box to carry them - after a good shake of the can I gave each one a gentle spray and returned them to the box to dry. Well this evening after giving them a few hours to dry - I was able to handle them and just to make sure I gave each a gentle blast from the hairdryer - "Perfect Job" thanks to EG's recomendation. I was then able to touch up any small bits of brasswork or flat white. So these are what I consider completely finish and ready to go in the unit. (Please excuse the pic - it was a quick shot while my phone was on charge in the kitchin) OC.
  14. Just gave my primer bottle a Right shake - then unscrewed the cap "good I can get inside it" then used my long brush handle and gave the inside a good stir, I then got one of my unpainted figures and gave it a quick light coat with my brush - need to wait for it to dry to see if its gone flat. OC.
  15. Thank you bro, wonder if its an error with the primer (should be flat out of the bottle) it doesn't say there is a difference - just checked mine says its a Matt formular, bet its that - thats not mixed enough or a dudd one. OC.
  16. Thanks Ken, I thought that about the bottles also, its also weird with the Vallejo flat varnish as I got every last bit out the bottle (even got some distilled water into it by drawing it up and gave it a good clean till clean - then emptied that last little bit into my jars and gave them a thorough stir, in theory all the top coat is now mixed well enough in the jars, same with the paints as they had the same treatment - emptied into jars till the bottles were clean - they also get a right stiring so much so I can see the bottom of the jars as I move the paint around with a brush handle. I wondered if all this nonsense is down to the actual primer - the Vallejo Surface primer (The Black One) as its not drying to a matt finish but is a semi satin finish - you can feel the smooth texture like a resin skin not slightly rough like other primers are. OC.
  17. Yep (if I ahd any hair) I have tried both gunze sangyo and vallejo Flat acrylic clear coats - from watering down the vallejo one as suggested 50/50 with water thats been boiled and gone cold, to trying it neat after being well and truly mixed (I havn't in fainess been able to try the ball in the paint method as I havn't been able to get out - but no where near me would sell such a thing as most small shops are closed near me - and havn't been able to purchase such a thing on line). OC.
