hi there...am currently building same ship...Corel Bellona....love your black stays but my kit only has tanned rigging...nothing black. Perhaps I can dye black the thicker rope for the stays....your thoughts?
that is just what I did....dyed intense black.... along with some spare Caldercraft black rigging.....The dye doesn't get right to the centre of the rigging so I touch up any visible tan area.

There has been quite a few builds of this model recently and I read a book several years ago about the sailors that had been exhumed that had died on Franklyn's ill fated mission.... They took tissues samples from the sailors bodies and the results show a massive content of lead in their bodies. This was put down to the canned food they took with them on the expedition which had been sealed with lead. I have included the pictures which some may find disturbing or interesting depending on your point of view. On the trip to exhume was a relative of one of the sailors. They were exhumed in 1986 and apart from tissue samples were reinterred in the same place. It is amazing how the ice has preserved these men. They had also been autopsied by the ships doctor before being buried to try to discover what had caused their deaths.

I would do it anyway....it is not complicated.

50% of the rats now done...……...which means 50% still to go..

all the shrouds and futtock shrouds now completed …..started on the rats...….things that make me go AAAAAAAAAGGGGHHHHHH...…..running out of single malt whisky, running out of Cuban cigars and running out of ratline before the end of the shroud and having to undo the other clove hitches and start again

hello Emmet....I completed this model a long time ago....some pics exist in the completed models section but I didn't do a build log...….it took me about 10 years from start to finish but there were big breaks during that time.....enjoy.

Maybe you should try to paint the gun port covers in the color of the skin.
deliberately kept like this as a contrast to the skin.....they are not supplied with the kit and painting would in my opinion look worse.
