really great progress Kevin..........that's what I was suggesting for the shrouds.   I couldn't tell what the Ross Tiger had...the picture didn't look too clear to me.   the mast is a good change up if your planning on lighting...left hollow,  the wires can be run.  she's coming out superb.......where did you get those pulleys?

I yam wot I yam!

thank you, she is coming along now,and getting a lot more attention, this dual isolation/retirement is suiting me.

the pulleys are white metal from the kit, i have still not rigged them, but i was looking through your trawler build log, the other day, to see how you did yours

Good morning everyone

Thank you for the likes and comments

the boom rigging will be done at a later date when i have a better understanding of where all the lines go, also depending on how she will be displayed

work progresses on the build, and i am thoroughly enjoying it, yesterday the stanchions above the ladders were completed, sprayed with white primer and a grime wash put on top

the big parts that were made up a few months ago and now being fitted, another week or so, i may have to put her on hold, as the hull will then require work and its just too wet/damp to do it,

Fantastic work Kevin. I love that beaten appearance that you are giving it: it looks so much like a real trawler which is seeing a lot of services and fish....

Yves

lol, thats just my poor modelling skills, but seriously im happy the way she is coming on, having things just off line, untidy ropes, chipped paint and some flory washes, is paying dividends for me

Good afternoon everyone

been thinking of how to display this 6 foot monster, and what configuration i would like to display, any ideas gratefully accepted

anyway with that in mind, i did a few detail bits

made the lockers look like they opened, still to be painted

Very nice work with the barrels   they so look the part.   with the setting for her  - why not  part of a dio  with a  harbour  wall  behind?

great idea, but the water would be a problem for me anyway, due to the size of the build, although certainly not ruling the idea out

lol OC this is your fault

i have now decided on how to display the build

how do you intend to display the build kevin? i hear you ask

well in a diorama of course

here are a couple of ideas i have

version 1

100-0017_IMG_2.jpg
in this version i like the right hand side idea, of the vessels tied up against a wall
diorama.jpg

these two appeal to me, may be a combination of the lot

any other ideas will be accepted. i will have about 6 foot by 4 foot and plenty of height to play with

Posted

lots of ideas for the diorama, but i may start a new thread for that, so i can attack some comments, who dont see my long build lpgs

but for now i have got a boat to build and finish,

the radar mast got some attention today, the radar will have to be removed in the future

quite a lot has changed since the mast as completedIMG_4397.thumb.JPG.bd7ada0db96bdbcc984f3317fed13a7f.JPG

painted silver with a black wash over the top

the radar dish is from the kit, will one day put something in its place that looks like one

good evening everyone

left the diorama for a while, i have a build to do as well

the hull is getting some attention now, starting with the after capping rail, i have still to adjust it width wise where the rail leave the rounded part of the cod liver house, but will be done as the next part is made up

and today she saw her first coats of paint on the hull, i can now see the areas that need work doing on it

good evening everyone,i hope everyone is well and safe, Happy Easter,

the capping completed and foredeck is now in position, i should have left it another day, but changed my plans on the way ahead as i seam to be torn between the chicken and the egg. i cannot progress the deck with out doing the hull, and the hull is to big to move around to progress the deck with out scratching anything. but in the end, the hull won

the whaleback has had a coat of primer then aluminium oxide. and yellow ochre. the hull has been sanded and sanded, where to a stage it will have to do,

the red is Halfords Rattle can Red Primer, and the same brand Matt Black for the top of the hull, there is a lot of over-spray onto the red but it needs another coat

Good evening everyone

made a very stupid mistake today, whilst doing the photo shoot, the light breeze took the build for a flying lesson, did a little damage, you can see it in the photo on the capping rail port side by the yellow cod liver oil house, I was lucky to get away with it, because 30 seconds later it would have had the superstructure on

anyway the hull looks ok now, it is very nearly the same on both sides, the admiral didnt notice it, and anyway one side will never be seen again when in the diorama

so here are a few photos taken today post flying lesson

and another lesson learnt today, is acrylics do not adhere to silver oxcide spray paint, hence the whale back is looking patchy, lol i like the look

good evening everyone

i see light at the end of the tunnel with this build, oh no its a train coming the opposite way,

its not a race, but i anticipate a end of may completion for her and during that time i will continue the diorama setting

i have reworked some of the after deck detail, and adjusting the bulkheads that fit under the whale back, lighting being tested and generally enjoying myself, im not getting fantastic long periods done at a time, but what i do get is quality time, and that for me is everything, i think i better start looking for the rudder and prop

as i try to close the stern off, adding blocks and now the Gallows, which were build up quite a while ago, the basic unit is secured into position and at present i am making the retaining bars from brass rod, i was undecided what base colour to use, but went safe and used black
