The Peterboro Canoe by Duanelaker - FINISHED - Midwest Products - 1:12

whenever model expo had a sale that dropped a boat below 100$ I would end up buying it

I keep eyeing the Dusek Greek Trireme whenever model expo has a sale. A few times it has come close to that $100 mark and I’ve almost fell victim to the sale. I work slow, so I’m doing my best to hold off buying models until I’m close to finishing what I’ve started.

(...and I keep buying upgrades to my build so there goes the ship budget anyway 🙂)

The biggest two problem with all the kits I bought are that 1) they take up an incredible amount of space and 2) it makes it nearly impossible to decide which one is next 😞

I'd say first of all, finish the ones you're currently working on. While you're doing that take a look at each of the other kits you have and ask yourself if that kit it special enough to you that it is indeed a keeper. I've found that even "easy" models take quite a bit of time to build well and I'm not willing to put a ton of hours into a model that isn't that special to me. In the end, I'd rather build fewer models that are special to me and, because of that, I'll do a better job on them and be ok with investing a lot of time into them.

I've got a few models on the shelf that I bought that I'm not so sure about anymore so I think I'm going to put them up for sale pretty soon. It will make it much simpler for me to decide on my next build also.

A few update photos....I did end up switching up to CA glue as it is kind of nice to use due to the set time being instant and the planking becoming more difficult.

I ended up filing the planks after I installed them as it seemed easier then filing the planks in my hand.  Seems to be working ok.  These pictures show how I trim and fit the opposite end as I finish each plank.

It's looking great, Dave. I used medium viscosity CA and it worked well for me. That hull will sand up nicely.

It looks like your cat has had a long day and is out for the night!

The worst too is that by the time you finish one, you likely bought three others to make deciding even harder!

I ended up glueing the frame in one spot because the bottom of the boat was flaring out...did pretty good trimming the pieces to fit...

It's looking great, Dave, and it brings back memories of how tedious the planking got when I did mine also. It will sand up nicely. You're making fast progress.

Was super tedious...the last few were tough.  I was impressed how light it is off the frame!  Lots of fiddly things to go.  Wondering how I should mount it or display it.

With how clean your work is I’m sure it’ll be a beautiful piece!  On my Canadian I think I might stick with carpenters glue...I’m not sure I’m good enough and can keep it clean with the CA

Couple of  columns  or perhaps  a couple of frames  - depends if you want  them decorative or invisible?

I don’t mind it being visible, I’m thinking I’d want the canoe tilted a bit...just can’t picture it with the paddles and such

Could try a couple of  columns/pedestals  one  slightly longer than the other to get the lean you want?

Looking good, Dave! It's interesting that the frames on the Indian Girl Canoe are much wider than the ones on the Perterboro Canoe.

Do you mean the distance between the frames or the actual wood?  I’ll have to take a look at the Indian girl plan

The repetition in model ship building can test just about anyone's patience except maybe the Dali Lama! Drilling around 700 little holes and putting a sliver of fishing line in them to simulate nails on the Medway Longboat nearly sent me to the looney house! Hang in there,Dave, she's coming along!
