Evening all,   I thought  i should  try  an incentive  to  kick my self into  doing something with my build,  so  I have brought a single spru  containing Three  riders and horses of the  Polish Lancers  that  where at  Waterloo  -  should  make an interesting pose  when made  and painted  - here is  how  they  paint up  from the  Victrix  catalogue.

Thank you kindly Alan,  its  one of the latests  sculpts  by  Victrix  - they  have  sharpened up  the details  including  thinner  more  realistic  horse  reins  and  even  scribed  details  on the  saddle details,  even the  figures  look good.

Good  evening all,  well   this  has   started  again  -  I decided  to  have a go  at re  top coating all  my figures  (about  60)  that  have already been  painted, but  have  retained  some slight  sheen to  the  paintwork,  so I  got  my  bottle  of  Lucky  Ultra Matt  and  (((Shook)))   the  living daylights  out of it, then using my  largest  best brush  I carefully  brushed over them  with  a  thin smooth  application  -   I have  done about Ten at  a  go  and  think  the finish  is  better.

I will  take some pics  when they are  all  done  so I can do a group  photo..

Light Field Battalion Luneburg was raised in 1813. By June, it was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel August von Klencke. At Waterloo, it was in the 1st Hanoverian Brigade. they were assigned to the 3rd Division, 1st Brigade under Major-General Count von Kielmansegge - to the north-west of La Haye Sainte.

Lüneburg Light Infantry Battalion.

Green jackets with black facings and green pantaloons. All of the leather equipment was black. The battalion wore shakos of a Portuguese design. Other sources suggest blue trousers, not green for this battalion, while others suggest that only the officers wore the blue trousers.

I believe von Klenke survived, there is a report that he took over command of the brigade for a period when Major General Kielsmanegge was unable to command.... this was after the battle at the farm...

Records are spotty at best of this period... and there are some differing reports of troop outcomes.... A good book on the subject is

The 400 Men Who Decided the Battle of Waterloo The Longest Afternoon

It goes into first person individual detail on the battle of La Haye Sainte... and is an excellent read to boot...

It would be but there are noted historians of the battle that clearly believe that he was shot dead in the initial advance on the NW side of the farmhouse in an attempt to clear out the 13e Legere skirmishers who occupied the Kitchen Garden and were trying to force the farmhouse door... In their advance down the slope, they were hit by Col, Crabbe's cuirassiers descending down the slope and through the Battalion... The Battalion broke and ran, von Klencke was killed in the first overrun assault, and about half the battalion fell, the remainder either surrendered, made it back to the ridgeline or retreated into La Haye Sainte...

That's the base story, oh, and Colonel von Klenke was dismounted.... (according to the standard story)

But there are some historians that take a different view and facts are sparse in this area, they were more about saving their own tails at the time than recording it... so take it with whatever grains of whatever you need to, {chuckle} At this time I don't think what actually happened will ever be known...

Thank  you  so  much  for   your  input  and  looking  into  this  for  me  brother,  I   have  to  be  honest  I was  not  aware that  the 13e   was  involved  in the attack  on LHS    -   was  this a  separate  - (later)  attack   after  the  first  54th  - 55th  ligne   attacks  on the   farm?   I know   history  states  that  both  the  54th  and 55th  made  the  first  attacks  on the  arm   and  re  tried  a few  times  after,  but  later  in the  day  Ney   took  personal    responsibility  for  the  attack   LHS.

The  farm  stayed  intact  till  late  in the  day   after   receiving  different   units  of  support  including  the  5th  KGL  Line   (Red costs)   they   where   all   involved  in defending  the farm  and  rear   kitchen garden  -  I  understand,  and  some   Luneberge  also  made  it  into the   garden   to  fight  or  take  shelter.

Its  all  down to  account records  I guess.

Opportunity lost is lost forever...

Ney had the opportunity to take the farm early in the morning when it wasn't defended at all... Napoleon in fact gave him the order to do such... There is a lot of speculation as to why he failed to carry out this order.... By the time he got around to looking at it, the KGL were there (but in small numbers) It seems that only Nappy knew the importance of that farm tactically... It was Napoleon's third order to Ney to take the farm when the real fight took place in the afternoon... Nappy made it Ney's personal responsibility...  By the time Ney got after it in earnest, the KGL had the farm fortified with a company of sharpshooters... It took everything Ney had to take it and by the time he did it wasn't because he won, it was because the KGL ran out of ammo and gave it up... And by then the French army was too weak to exploit it, Von Bluecher's arrival seals the deal for Wellington....

If Ney had taken the farm when Nappy first ordered it, Waterloo would have been a French victory... The Farm was the key to the battle...

Hi OC

I am returning after a long time away and I stumbled across this thread.  This a fantastic project.

Now a wee little story:

About 10yrs ago, whilst I was still serving, I started a Military Hobbies and Bookstore as a side project.  One of the things I would do between deployments was commission miniatures painting and I was contracted to paint a few Napoleonic figures for a gamer who also wanted display them whilst not using them on some custom made boards.  As I said it was only a few.....THOUSAND!!!  Ended up being 2800 figures, OH did I mention they were 15mm and I had NEVER painted 15mm before that.  He must have thought I did a good enough job as I then had to paint something like 4000 Romans for him and about the same number of Persians and Greeks.  Varnishing was the worst part, so I can understand the "joy" you are having.

Keep up the great work.

So  just  some  final  thoughts  on how   (time  line  -  events)   I want to  display my  dio   -

The 2nd KGL had been forced inside the courtyard after loosing quite a few men defending the orchard, the 2nd KGL had met up with the Luneberg Battalion but came under attack by the Cuirassiers and most tried to reach the lines on the slope - a few made it back into the courtyard including a small handful of Luneberg, the 2nd KGL re entered LHS along with some 1st KGL and 5th Line KGL and the KGL made a few charges on the French through the main door on the road, while the Cuirassiers and the odd Lancer are around on the other side of the orchard.
Not 100% fully accurate but not far off taking into account my space limitations with my dio area, and the time since the batttle happened details can get mixed up slightly.
