18th century harbour crane by Ekis - FINISHED - Shipyard - 1/72 - CARD

I haven't yet resumed the construction of the village...

But, as I had started something different on vacation, I preferred to finish it before resuming...

So this is a cardboard Shipyard model ! It's at 172 scale (the village is at 187) : it's an 18th century harbour crane located in Lueneburg, Germany. It still exists and is operated by 2 inside man-wheels and fully covered. I chose to leave half of it open to show the inside of the crane.

A little warning for those who would like to get into it : a lot of patience, rigor and an almost inhuman touch as the parts are so fine and fragile... But on the other hand, everything is there in the details and mechanisms!  😁

And this is the final result once aged, with its stone base added.

I may use it one day if I have a boat at the same scale and time to make a dock... 😉

This is one of the reasons I like this hobby... You can illustrate a piece of humanities ingenuity in serving it's needs, a moment in time so to speak....

Impressive, and in paper no less, even more impressive....

Excellent representation of a very difficult subject...

My hat is off to you sir!

Beautiful work and hard to believe it's card.  A diorama at some point would really make it pop.

Ekis,  I hope you had a good vacation. That is a great kit and you have done a wonderful job . There are so many interesting subjects to build in scale. It’s nice to not be completely locked into a particular genre, as there are so many more possibilities to explore. Very nice work. I also like the photo of the original. I would love to visit the area.
