Hi Graig,

When I can procured a kit this way and it safe me money, why not ?

I did the same with the Aggy.

Mobbsie ordered it in England and I'll pick it up at his place.

It safe me about 400 Euro's ( 547 US Dollars )

And I was in England that time so two flies at one hit !

A little update......

If you can call it an update !

No Pictures this time because.......I make a mistake !

The shrouds for the mizzen mast where on the ship but.....WRONG ROPE !!!!!!! :(  :(  :(  :(

I was cleaning up the workbench and I was looking again at the rope that I've got.

Then I see a few rolls with thicker tread , 0.80

Strange ....so I look at the plans and yep, that rope should be going to use for the shrouds......instead of 0,50

So I have to remove the shrouds that's on it and have to change it.....

One luck for me....I don't like it as it was.

So tomorrow demolition and doing it again on the mizzen mast.....

Hum... well, that's a good thing you were not happy with the first shrouds then! As my granny used to say: "doing and redoing, this is working"...

So, we'll have a new shrouds picture next time?

Good for you Sjors in deciding to re-do something you weren't happy with. I'm sure you will be well satisfied with the results.

Sorry to hear about the setback Sjors...I think I qualify as the queen of reworks...it does delay things a bit, but the results are usually better the next time around.

We all make mistakes and I would imagine using the wrong size/part is a common one

At least you caught it as you did it as it were

Just take your time with the dismantling

Question for every one .

When I place the shrouds and put the deadeye in then.....the lanyards.

When I fixed the lanyard, the top deadeye is twisting around with the lanyard.

It becomes a spiral.......

I try to serving the rope and one without the serving.

With and without the beeswax.

Nothing helps , it keep twisting.

I remove it now for 5 times and I have enough of it.

What do I wrong !

Can anyone tell me that ?

One option is available and that is ....let the lanyards hanging loose but I think that that is not the meaning.

Should I buy new rope ?????

Wow, Sjors - moving along well!  good call on redoing the oopsie.

May need to let the shroud "settle" for a bit to get the natural twist out of it some.  I recall seeing in one of the threads dampening the line, then hanging it with a very light weight to help take that natural desire to twist out of it.

Good Luck!

Wayne

Thanks Wayne and Augie,

@ Wayne,

I have let the shroud hanging for one day with a weight and still twisting......

This is the first time that I have this problem.

With the other models, no problem !

Sjors I am not sure I understand the problem you are describing exactly. If the line does not need further adjustment later in the build then you could stiffen the line with plastruct liquid cement. It is very thin and applied and dried made my tackle lines behave when they wanted to follow their own direction. Once I had the lines exactly where I wanted them I applied it then kept the tension on the line while it dried. They have not moved - as of yet...

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your help.

It's the shrouds that are turning around when I put the lanyards in and fixed them.

And on the shrouds we have those wonderful ratlines.......

I think that there is only one solution left.......order new rope......

Could take a while to get that new rope.  What are you going to do in the meantime?

try holding the rope loose in your hand and pull down to the dead eye.   the twist should come out of it and present the proper twist...rig it so you don't lose it  :)   I usually let them hang limp.....if the back side is showing,  I do the half twist to bring the face to front and rig them.

the trouble comes when they don't fully relax..... twist is still present.   when you try to rig it,  the pull causes the twist to continue.

I have found a solution thanks to Popeye and Mobbsie

I let it twist, remove the lanyard while holding the deadeye, replace the lanyard and it stays straight !

Only a lot of rack......

So the deadeyes are a little bit lower.

I have to leave it for one day and then tight them up.

2 shrouds ( 1 pair ) a day......

Thank you Popeye and Mobbsie !

And the Aggy still stays in the box !!!!! (takes a long time before it is the first of January )

Small update.....

Because of work not much time to do anything.

The shrouds with deadeyes and lanyards on the mizzen lower part are done.....

One side a few ratlines to see how it goes with the futtock stave.

On the port side just put the deadeyes on the tops but no picture of that.

I first want to finish the shrouds to the futtock stave before I make a picture of that .

Be patient what concerns that.

A few pictures of how everything looks.
