Recommended Posts

Hi Robbyn,

You are waiting for an update.....

I think the San Ildefonso also  :P

She is high on the shelf watching the birth of the Aggy.

On the first of January I started on that one and make some pictures.

You don't have to search, just click on the link at the bottom of the post  :D

I have saved a chair for you and Sherry but those chairs are still empty........ :(

Hello Sjors,

Let me express my admiration to your precise and inspirational work. The rigging looks superb, I like all the pics very much. The ship is also nice and

impressive.

Have a great time during the build.

Thanks Doris.

I'm not at the level you are but I'm happy so far  :D  :D

For the moment I'm busy with the Agamemnon, planking the middle gun deck.

When that's finished, I go back to this one.

  • 4 weeks later...

Here I'am again with something that I have done.

The lower shrouds are on .....

Still turning deadeyes but ok, I think they are straight now.

The first shroud is totally served and I have the deadeyes make a little higher then the other ones.

So you will see it better that it is a shroud without ratlines.

I don't know the name of it so maybe someone can tell me that ?

I also make the futtock stave.

That's a job I really want that left behind but then it's not correct ( I think ).

After a few words who are not te be translated, there on.

It don't deserve maybe a beauty price but I keep it this way.

Next thing to do are the little shrouds that goes from the top deadeye to the end of the serving and then.....ratlines !

Hi Buddy,

I like what you've done here mate, it's good to see some progress.

Why hasn't that first shroud not got any ratlines on it, in most cases it's the last shroud that doesn't have a full set, the last shroud is usually tied in with a row of ratlines every 10 rows, I'm not saying it's wrong after all she is a Spanish vessel it's just unusual that's all. Unless I've read it wrong which would be par for the course.

Keep the good work up mate.

You have been a busy boy! Those shrouds and tops look great! I love how the look of the ship changes so much once the shrouds and ratlines go on.

Hi Sherry,

I was not that busy.

An hour here of there and that's it !

Work is in the way......

But I'm happy that you like it  :D  :D

@ Lawrence,

Thank you also.

I know you will do a better job with those ropes then I do.

The rope from OcCre is just terrible.

But to late to change it.

I hope that the rope for the Aggy is much better otherwise I will change that.

Thanks Sam, Frank and Wayne,

@ Wayne, shall I re-name the build into Fonzie  :D  :D  :D  :D

Now we have the Aggy and the Fonzie....

@ Mobbsie,

I have take another look to the drawings and they are saying that the first shroud ( the one close to the main mast ) has NO ratlines.

The second one has every 10 row a ratline....

Just what you are saying before....maybe because she is Spanish ????

Or I can put a Dutch flag on it  :D  :D  :D

It's nice when I am alone at home and Anja is working ....

Someone has to make money !

That means that I have the house for my own, stereo on 30 and tying knots......

Result ? ratlines at the lower part of the main mast done !

We can now go further at the middle section of the main mast.

Making shrouds, turning deadeyes and ratlines again.

Maybe not this afternoon because of the speed skating in Sotchi.

Maybe we can colour the stage again orange !

Or as Shani Davids it is saying....they will BE DUTCHT !!!!!!! ( love that line )

Beautifully done ratlines Sjors. Isn't it always a pleasure to look back at a section of them that you've just done and go "whew" -- one less area of ratlines that you still have to do.

Very nice progress my friend.  Don't go deaf with the stereo that loud.

Enjoy your speed skating.  You've even got us here rooting for the orange.  Of course, there ARE other winter sports in Sochi !  Like Olympic Ratline Tying.

Very inspiring Sjors, those ratlines look great.  Are you going to leave them natural or stain them black?  And you got them all done in an afternoon?!

Cheers,

Jason

Thanks my friends  :D

@ Patrick,

It looks a lot and maybe it is..... I don't know.

But is feels good that I have done the main mast ratlines

@ Bob,

Yes, it gives a lot of satisfaction when you finish something.

But when you are almost at the end of something, you want to leave it behind you and then...the phone rings, someone at the door, you have to go to the bathroom....

But it is done.

Up to the next one !

@ Augie,

No worries my friend.

The wharf is upstairs so I'm not getting deaf  :D

You know what Shani Davis is telling you....you are gonna be BE DUTCHT !

Not with Bob de Jong but ok, the guy is 37.....

And you create a new Olympic something ? tying ratlines ?????????

@ Jason,

Thank you very much  :D

I leave the ratlines natural because the shrouds are brown and it's a nice contrast.

No, not in one afternoon....just a day and a half.

And that not all the time .

Hi Sjors,

You've got a lot done there mate well done, looking good. A few more to do but less than you've done. :)  :) :)

I now know why you guys do so well in the skating, you have a 221 Km, 11 cities race around the Nordland, max time of 14 hours. Gotta be quick before the ice melts. :D  :D

Speak to you later mate.
