Seems you're off to a good start there Neil.

First I couldn't tell if it were some kind of speedboat, but the latter pictures with forward cabin and sides kind of revealed it.

Will it be RC or static?

After a little more browsing I got that it's the boat from the movie Jaws of course!

Keep it up!

neilm,

Your Orca is looking great.

The film Jaws brings back a lot of fond memories - was it really 1975!? ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2I91DJZKRxs

I've never done a scratch build but, one day, hope to. Orca could be the one.

Can I ask if you used these plans ....  https://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/mar2463.html      ... and does a scratch builder buy two sets of plans, one for reference and one for sticking to the wood and then cutting?

regards,

Richard

Hi Richard.

I have these plans but they are very vague and iffy. I used plans from Pat Tritle. Accurate and great info.

Buy one set and then copy and print off bits as you need them. Sometimes you need one part a few times so always better to have a back up.

Flying Fish. I bought a scale barrel from online website and then made casts from that one. But since that, a mate of mine has a 3d printer and is sending me six. Really clear and accurate. Will show you all when they arrive.

Looking good!

What are your thoughts about painting? Are the deck structures removable for easy access f.ex?

Keep it up!

Happy modelling!

Copy that @neilm

My thought was that it is easier to do the paint job when there is easy access, like having the deck house freed from the hull, and then glue it in place when painted.

Happy modelling!

Yes I am leaving some major parts unglued to paint before fixing, like the  flying bridge and roof and the cabin back wall to access the inner part. Will also finish the decks prior. And of course the pulpit. ☺️

Sounds like you've got a plan. That's good. 🙂

Coming along nicely.

About the mast, probably yes. If not tapered it will look like a telephone post I'm afraid. Take a google tour over the web and look for motor boats with masts, like older fishing boats or more modern long distance motor boats. That will give you an idea of how masts are shaped generally.

Happy modelling!
