Ok, Nenad;  Not a lot of progress, but this is where I'm at.  The rudder is loosely mated with a piece of scrap wood in order to drill the sternpost sides of the gudgeons, which still have to be cut to size.  The rudder side of the gudgeons have all been drilled, and you see some wire in place that will eventually be cut and shaped into the holding nails.  In the last pic I'm holding the bracket for the rudder retention chain (I'm using the terms loosely) that will be affixed to the rudder stock.

Nice work, my friend. Clean and precise. A little drop of gold color in black will give metalic shine on hinges, if you like this

Almost forget, I own you something ...

Recipe for "hot brandy". ( Central part of Serbia is called Shumadia, and this beverage is called Shumadia tea ;)

In vial 2 deciliter put 3 teaspoons of sugar and heat on a low flame until the sugar is dissolved. When the sugar begins to dark (caramelized), add 1 deciliter plum brandy ( be carefull) , heighten the fire and boil until hardened caramel is completely dissolved. Then add 1 deciliter of water and continue cooking until it boils again when the beverage is ready. Drink hot

And feel hot

Be carefull drinking  - it is more stronger than it seems.

The ratio may be varied depending on the taste. ( stronger or weaker, more or less suggar ...)

Thanks for the kind words everyone;  my stomach flu was 3 days of misery, but that was a couple of weeks ago, and I feel fine now.  (So no excuses for lack of progress, right, Nenad ;) ?)

Thank you for the Shumadia tea recipe, Nenad;  I must try it out soon as it is starting to get colder here, and It sounds like a good warmer-upper.  Not sure if I can find plum brandy where I live, but then again, I've never looked...

I did spend a little time last night fashioning some bolts, and affixing a few to the rudder, as well as doing some measurements and experimental work with the bulwark sheaves that Nenad has just completed, but nothing photo-worthy yet.

Seeing everybody's progress will soon light a fire under my @%%, and I'll be good to go once again... :D:10_1_10:

Bob, something strange happened

This morning I was sitting with cigarette and coffee, and a litlle pig suddenly fly in, screaming: " oh, he is so nervous, jumping from Niagara to Vic over CS and back, and again, talking something about Cony ... I must go back to help him to find himself, so BBQ must wait ..." and dissapeared with flash light and a pfuf ...

Ok...  After following Nenad's fine work on the outside of the CS, and Chris' fine work on the deadeyes, I am starting to get a little fired up for working on my Cutty.

(I've also run out of printer ink, plywood, and glue sticks;  all essential for my Victory build at this time..)

Nenad;  I guess I like jumping around these builds because of all the different aspects...

I was getting tired of doing fine detailing on the Cutty, so I went with the more crude and "meaty" job of cutting out the Vic's bulkheads.

When I get the planking urge, I'll probably jump over to the Niagara...

But now, I'm thinking deadeye work on the Cutty is next in line....  (rudder is still not finished, but it can wait)

As promised;  I did a little deadeye work....  This is a picture of the starboard main deadeyes, in their rail..

The deadeyes, and thier strops, are raw, unpainted, and undetailed.  This is just to show their orientation to the rest of the ship.  Also, the last three smaller deadeyes are not installed, as I am trying to find a happy medium with their tiny chain plates.  I spent a heck of a lot of time to place the holes to angle these things as the shrouds would be naturally so I hope all this works...

Best always,

Bob

Prototype deadeye, with strop an rod, from quite a while ago, sitting with smaller deadeye prototype.

The 3.5 mm deadeye will represent deadeyes in diameter from 9 to 10 inches on the real ship, while the 2.5 mm  deadeyes will represent those from 6 inches to 7 inches in diameter.

This is a "raw" deadeye, attached to its' "rod"  (still called a chainplate, I'm assuming) and set next to two "iron strops" that will be painted white to surround the deadeye, which will be painted black.  I'm gearing up for mass production of theses strops, simulated with aluminum from beer cans.

I'll need around 70.

3mm deadeye ... with 3 little holes ... how do you do this?

Piggy helps?

Great work

I wish you all patience of this world when you start massproduction

Hi, Nenad;  by "raw" I just meant a deadeye with the chainplate on;  untrimmed, unpainted, and without it's little aluminum band strop.  All my deadeyes are purchased from Model Expo...

There's no way in #@@ I could ever scratch build these, nor would I want to....  Just wrapping the wire around them and getting them fitted is tedious enough...

and remember;  You, my Friend,  are the one responsible for me making the little aluminum strops... :10_1_10:

It took about two or three relaxing evenings to wrap the 24 gauge wire around the 50+ 3.5 mm deadeyes, with resultant very sore fingers. (This was done a while back)

The smaller deadeyes, however, even though only being 18 in number, are much harder on my fingers...  I tried two pairs of pliers, but no matter how careful I twisted, I always managed to break the wire.  There's no substitute for the tactile feel of one's fingers..

With the exceptions of 6 of the smaller deadeyes on the port side,  all deadeyes are married to their chainplates and temporarily put into position.

Each one has been fitted into it's respective position, and will be removed for detailing. (AL strops, painting, and alignment), after which the bulwarks will be cleaned up, touched up, and sealed with a polyurethane coat, before final fitting of assembled deadeye units.

Pics are starboard fore, main, and mizzen rails with repective deadeyes and chainplates.  Note the unfinished deadeye units.  Also the varying angles due to the shroud angles.  Last pic shows a look forward from the poop.

Thanks dragzz;  just looked into your Victory build;  doing a fine job!

Patrick;  Thanks for the kind words;  Your Niagara is outstanding!  Haven't looked at your progress on the Connie for awhile...  mainly due to my shipoholic state....If I see too much, I order too much, and try to build too much.....   and my Christmas present to my self would be ....?  (Family needs presents too!)

I'll look in when I think my problem is under control...

Happy Holidays!

Bob
