Nice, John!  I am horrible at soldering.  Can you do 34 of 'em? <shrug> 😉

You’ll get the hang of it, I did. I only post the success, plenty of fails before I got it right. LOL 😆

Cathead remake…

Below are photos of the Catheads on the Bluenose replica Bluenose II.

IMG_2498.jpeg.6238360f82408ff8871b0de971df055d.jpegIMG_2151.thumb.jpeg.f469563af441a475e19547d655bb55d7.jpeg

After being in Nova Scotia and seeing the Bluenose II, I decided I needed to rework the Catheads. The MS kit supplied metal parts for the Catheads were just too small to look correct to me. Here is a photo of the kit supplied parts.

IMG_2357.thumb.jpeg.f87b3ceec70d1304ebd36470495da6eb.jpeg

I replaced the parts with my own build of the Catheads.

IMG_2488.thumb.jpeg.efc08e3e881c0dfffd8dd0c5e0b702f0.jpeg

Brass needed to be painted to look galvanized. I used Testor’s Flat Aluminum Enamel.

I’m much happier with Cathead version 2.0. Cheers 🍻

Cathead 2.0 looks really nice.  Love the pictures you took of the Bluenose II for historical perspective.  Thanks for sharing!

Did you actually fit out all 8, only to cover up 6 of them? Awesome!

Only the two on top have been fitted inboard. I’m not that crazy. 😜 I do still have Sixteen pairs of oars to carve out and stow in the top of the Dories.

Yes, when the Dories were stowed they removed the Thwarts and Oars so the Dories could nest in a stack and then placed them in the last Dory to be stacked. No need to build more than can be seen. 👍

Thanks for your comments, are you building the Bluenose II or the original? Here is a vintage photo of the original Bluenose just before it was sold. I’m trying to strike a balance, using the Bluenose II photos as a guide to my finishes but build her as the original.

Do you have a build log posted?

Working on the original 1921 Bluenose!  Just posted an update on my progress.  And, yes, I certainly understand there are some subtle differences between the two ships, but enjoy seeing the pictures of all of them!  Appreciate you sharing!

Next up… I have decided to add a little something to the deck. I am going to add fishing gear. I asked the question, Are we going to fish or cut bait? The answer is of course, YES!

Awesome deck work, John!  Very impressed!  Love how you did the barrel storage/sheathing work.  Have been debating how to do the barrels, as well, and, as Ferrus pointed out above, you've used that old picture of their "working deck" to display it all very well!  I do love those historical (and current day Bluenose II) pictures.  Appreciate you sharing!  Carry on!

I debated building a working deck with the barrels and bait stations all the way thru the construction of them. 😬 I’m still not quite happy with the finish on the storage bins, I may redo the tops. Darn OCD. I’m considering a few bait line buckets, But I don’t want to turn it into a diorama. LOL 😆

Thanks to all, for your comments and 👍

Excellent job painting/weathering the barrels!

Thanks… The 1/64 scale Barrels came from a modeling web site Frenchman River Model Works.

Good stuff 😎
