Hello everyone!
I am glad to be a member here! I am sixty years old, I am a musician and I live in West Central Florida. My interests in modeling have been between ships, railroads and WWI aircraft. I've also dabbled in R/C modeling, but I got tired of it never being a relaxing pastime. So, I've decided to get back into ship modeling. It all started with a Pyro Roman Merchantman and Santa Maria in 1967. Since then I've built quite a few models, mostly plastic but some wood and even paper. My best models were the 1/350 Titanic and 1/350 Yamato, built more than 40 years ago. Also the Soleil Royal from Heller. My latest model is the 1/72 Santa Maria from Shipyard, laser cut paper. Still slogging along on this one. I'd like to build a model of the Mary Rose someday, maybe a huge model in 1/20. Right now that's the stuff of fantasies. Seeing that model of De Zeven Provincien in the Batavia museum in Holland certainly whets the appetite for such a thing. But where do you find the room?
The resources here are fantastic. I'm grateful to find out about this site from a colleague on a social media site. He himself contributes a lot here, so I'm grateful to be a part of this as well. Best wishes to everyone--

Lyle

Welcome to MSW, Lyle.  You might consider opening a build log for your current project.  It's a great way to meet others and also get help when you need it.

Welcome to MSW, Lyle.

The idea of making a BIG model of Mary Rose is very adventurous, but by no means impossible. I've done a speculative model (still working on it) of Mary Rose's sister ship Henry Grace a Dieu (or Great Harry), and if you actually end up making your model, I'd be happy to share any information I may have collected in my years of research on the subject - especially the bits of the ship that didn't survive, which can often be reconstructed from contemporary pictures, for example the forecastle - see
