Air Cargo Shorts 360 by GrandpaPhil - FINISHED - 1/72 - Model Shapeways - 3D-Printed

Recommended Posts

I’m painting a Shorts 360 for a friend of mine.

It was his old plane.

I’m going to clone that particular plane for him.

Here’s the 3D print:

It has the typical issue with tricycle gears in that the model is tail heavy.

I will add pennies to the under carriage, where they won’t be visible to weigh down the nose.

I sealed the model prior to painting:

I used Mod Podge for my initial sealant:

This is the best undercoating that I have ever found.

It works to make a paintable undercoat for any material that I have ever painted.

Once it cures for 24 hours, it will not flake or peel off, even on soft plastic miniatures, and acrylic paint sticks to it just fine.

I will start actual paint work tomorrow after this cures.

The only caveat is that you CANNOT sand anything you use Mod Podge on.

As an aircraft buff, I knew what you meant when you said "Air Cargo Shorts," but since cargo shorts are also a thing, I can see how some people might be confused. 😄

Yeah, but I've never heard of anyone selling a pair of shorts 360's... {chuckle} Besides how do you put them on? (and don't tell me one leg at a time)

I haven’t gotten a lot of modeling done lately.

I discovered the Uncharted games and have played through the first two games.

I’m half way through the third one now.

I picked back up on this one:

IMG_8922.thumb.jpeg.e083135947b73cc280f7e5c2af54a358.jpeg

The wing supports and props are painted.

The engines are base coated and are awaiting drybrushing with a gunmetal color.

I figured out how to do the light blue stripes.

I’m going to precut strips out of paper and paint those. Then just glue them down.

Painting civilian stuff (like aircraft) is like painting High Elves or Eldar (from the Warhammer franchise), it’s very clean cut and not roughed up like most of my models.

Next up, I am going to seal my work in and make some “decals”.

I am hand painting the “decals” on regular paper and then sealing them, prior to cutting them out and installing them.

I cut some 1/8” wide strips of paper to make the stripes from.

I just need to paint them and seal them prior to installation.

Card modeling has been very informative for me and has helped me develop my skills tremendously.
