Shipyard sid Posted September 29, 2014 Author Share #422 Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) Greetings all Well I expected to have my victory encased in a few days time, and have tidied the ship up, and touched up the paintwork. At the moment I am painting the oars and anchors for the two small boats which fit on the davits. The two final replacement acrylic sheets for my case appear to have been lost in transit . I got a call today to tell me they had been dispatched last Wednesday, and I should have received them the next day, but TNT appear to of lost them. I have been told it will be sorted tomorrow, and I will be sent two more sheets. I expect to start the royal caroline in a few weeks time, and I have just had a keel clamp made. I have just noticed that the horizontal bar may need lengthened . See what think of it. Thanks for your comments and for viewing. I like that keel clamp very much and I don't believe you'll need to change it if you set the clamps close to each end of the horizontal bar. One of my many mistakes is that I failed to drill the keel for mounting so I guess I'm going to have to rely on clamping. Your little boats look excellent and I hope mine will look as good. Nothing much more to say except it seems like the glazing (arylic?) seems cursed. I thought you were using glass and it was shattered during the first delivery. Cutty Sark has been sitting in its acrylic case for about 15 years now. No dust and not a drop of discoloring in the acrylic. Thought you'd like to know that. The bowsprit first and then the foremast. I have noted others have built all three lower masts first. I suppose the expert model ship builders may make and assemble their masts in various sequences, depending on certain factors. Maybe someone could enlighten us. The photos don't do it justice, as I pointed out in the display case log. But the ship does really look impressive. The photos showing the full case are very fuzzy, and we tried everything we could think of to eliminate it. I did notice the fuzzy pictures when I moved into my new shipyard and blame it on the blue walls which I was advised was the best colour to use. The walls in the other yard were magnolia and the photos were much sharper. Anyway you can see the difference with the close up photos. So that's my lot, and now I turn to my next build which is the royal yacht caroline by panart. I did purchase the pegasus after following blue ensigns brilliant build, but the admiral said she wanted me to build a galleon. She said my late fathers last two ships were galleons so she wanted a galleon. She had a look through Cornwall model boats list of ships and between herself and her friend decided the caroline was a nice ship. So I am now beginning the only royal galleon caroline on the site. I would like to thank you one and all for following my build over the last few years, which has been wonderful experience. I am now off to build my Galleon. Here's the last few photos. The case looks very nice and having a removable panel makes handling the ship a task and not a chore. It was my pleasure to watch your progress when I came aboard the site and especially to have you become my friend. Truthfully, I would have never completed my ship if it weren't for you with your friendly personal messages calming down my many panics. As much as I liked communicating with you the past couple of years, I can tell you for sure, I am not going to build the Caroline. Now it's nothing personal but I think the next project may be the Derfflinger, a Euromodel kit. My admiral hasn't made up MY mind yet. IN any event, My Victory is finished as the flags and pennant were hoisted this afternoon. I'll probably post a picture of her sooner or later. The display case has been ordered and will hopefully be ready in four weeks, just in time for Christmas. In the meantime she is isitting on her table, probably collecting dust as we all await the cover. Have a great night and enjoy the rest of the weekend. I used to, it was free and allowed me to crop, rotate and manipulate the data size of images before uploading them into my build log. When they changed their conditions of use and required a subscription payment I stopped using them, and could no longer access the pictures I had saved with them. There were then problems with photos I'd previously added to my build log through that provider. Just a thought......
