Oarlocks and Horse added, using supplied wire from kit, oarlocks will be painted red to match.

Friezes were added, I had to resize them down to 88% of original to get the sizing to fit, then I

sprayed them with artists fixative to stop it from fading, then I used rubber cement on both surfaces

to glue them on.

Final pic shows it next to her big sister ( USF Confederacy ), for which I will have to build 2 slightly smaller ( 3/16" scale ) ships boats.

This marks an end to all the old pics up to now, I am currently building and painting all of the mast and spars and their associated metal work, more pics to follow with comments always welcome.

I was hoping that you folks who know what they're doing would stay off here for a while and make the rest of us look better.  Oh well ;)

Ben, thank you for this picture tutorial of the longboat. Exactly what I was looking for!

Both your builds look smashing, to say the least :)

Happy modelling!

Hi Ben,

Your Longboat looks great! I have the kit and can hardly wait to start working on it, but it will be after I complete my current build. Can you tell me what media you printed your friezes on what you thought about the results. The photos show excellent results. I've seen advertisments for inkljet friendly decal material but I've never tried it before.

Regards,

Larry

Hi Larry and thanks for the comments.

I reprinted the Friezes on standard weight copier paper and then added a fixative ( Wife's hairspray laquer ) to try and prevent it from

aging to badly, mine came out nicely I think, just remember you may have to resize them to fit your hull better ( 88% for me ).

Ben,

I cannot wait to see pictures of your Longboat with the mast stepped and rigged.

Chuck moved all of the Longboat  build logs into the Club Build log Forum and renamed it MSW Group Build of an 18th Century Longboat. This way all of the Longboat Build Logs will be in the same Forum.

Guilty as charged...this way if anyone is looking for a longboat build they are all in one place.  Cant wait to see her all rigged up.  That was fun.

A Few Updates,

First as you can see the mast was constructed and the Iron work made as per the instructions, blocks added and then it was stepped a tiny amount aft, about 5 degrees, I prefer the look.

Then the main boom was made and a tiny piece of wire was used as the hook on the end to go into mast reciever, I then rigged it up and installed it, with the block on the horse which shall go under my rudder as per Chucks original design.

Then the Gaff Boom was made and rigged, I left the parrells brass instead of painting them as I wanted the contrast and them to be noticeable.

Started making the chainplates/deadeyes and here you can see the starboard side have been added.

I really must start thinking how I am going to mount her, pedastals or cradle.

Ben - I know its been awhile since you finished this project. But can you tell me how you decided to mount her? Also did you replace any of the wood with wood from Jeff?
