Trabakul by Matija - 1:30, Adriatic Sea traditional sailing ship - Finished

Recommended Posts

Trabakul is one of my first works.
I have a few pictures of building models and want to share them with you.

Trabakul is the name for a traditional sailing ship on the east coast Adriatic sea with two masts. It is a cargo sailing ship.

Trabakul are in use from the 18th to the early 20th century. and later when the sails are being replaced with the engine. Smaller trabakuls long as 14-20 meters capacity of 40-100 tons and larger 30 meters and capacity of 60-200 tons.

These are old pictures of Trabakul  from Croatian Adriatic islands and coastal cities:

Hi Matija. Congratulation, your model looks great.!

I would like to ask you about  those "cut stems" close to the masts...Are they a kind of vertical capstans (at least the one in the front looks like) or something else.

Many thanks and allow me to place a photo of a "τραμπάκουλο" from the other side of the Adriatic sea.

Thx

Thanasis, you're right it's vertical capstans:

your "τραμπάκουλο" definitely shares the roots with Trabakul and she is nice. :)

A beautiful ship, Matija.  You did her well.  I love the details like painting/carving(?) on the tiller.

My query is about those two things as are pointed in the below photo.
Many thanks again.

Do not worry Thanasis, I certainly amuse the forum members with his writings because I'm not good with English ...

In the photo are bollards for tying and towing Trabakul. Trabakul is not bind
on the rail if it was full of cargo and difficult because it broke. That is why bind for bollards.
Towed is a small boat in the harbor if there was no wind, because each Trabakul had a boat.
Thanks for an interest for this boat and my model.

All the best, Matija.

I remember when I was five, 50 years ago, in Povlja, Brač island, I was allowed to go fishing with fishermans on Trabacul. Diesel, but they spreaded sails in deep sea ...

Thanks Mauro. I'm glad you're going to build Trabakul and it will be my honor if I can help you.

Helped me a lot book: Trabaccoli e pieleghi by Mario Marzari and I recommend it

greeting, Matija.
