Aren't you already building the Caldercraft kit?
-
Your suggested method is how I recall doing it Bob. Any joint will be well hidden by the cap itself.

Thanks guys. So far Latham looks good fiddling around with things Chris. The fittings package looks decent and the Ronnberg plans (other than the rigging sheet) look good. I picked up Chapelle's "American Fishing Schooners" book and can tell it will be a nice resource. Build log to follow once I get something concrete going. Should be a nice change form the warships!

Thanks Wayne. I've enjoyed the ride through Granado and Sophie. Going New England fishing schooner next with MS Benjamin W. Latham, so we may be diverging a bit!

Looks like an interesting build Mike. Good luck with your foray into plastic! I've had the itch to build some plastic lately after not having done so for a few years.

Thanks guys. I'm doing better now for the most part, it's just been a very long road. Hope to go back to work in a few weeks. Next up,, Model Shipways Benjamin W. Latham:

Sophie is complete, and has been for a while but just getting around to getting pictures up. I've been through a rough patch health wise, with four hospitalizations and two surgeries over the last few months. Hopefully on the road to full recovery at this point. Anyway...hope you enjoy the final photos, it was quite an enjoyable build, and with a few changes I highly recommend the kit.

I did my Granado finish planking with Boxwood and am very happy I made that decision. The walnut in my kit was of very poor quality. There are photos of how it looks in my build log link.

HMS Snake by drtrap - Caldercraft
jwvolz replied to drtrap's topic in - Kit build logs for subjects built from 1751 - 1800
These should help Stergios. It's hooked behind the third deadeye. That may change for you with three masts. Single block on the channel, double coming down from the topping lift. -

Stergios, Yes, I did customize that (as well as other parts of the rigging) based on the Brig Irene book. -
Ha! No check needed Bob, that came out nicely. The stern decorations look very good.

That's nice clean work Bob. Trust me, it took some fiddling to get those rails right. Sand, test fit, repeat...

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
