    Yes, I have taken the plunge. I have been following the progress of this project from inception and cannot wait any longer. I ordered my plans last week so they should arrive soon (fingers crossed) and today I ordered the bulwark and keel kits from Chuck... Now how do I explain to my wife that yes we moved house 2 weeks ago and I don't yet have a workshop or area to build it... but' where there 's a will there is a way'....DIY and unpacking whilst multi tasking to create a workshop Happy days

    I have finally finished it. I really enjoyed the kit even if the instructions (for a new starter) were very poor. I have learnt so much my next build will be so much better.

    Hi I came new to this hobby in Dec 2013 with my first build 'I assumed' wrongly as it turned out that the kits being sold reflected as near as possible the real thing just taking into account the level of detail and complexity you were paying for. This is the only thing I find disappointing in this fascinating hobby. . Is it time where distinguished clubs/societies award their seal of approval or scoring scale that manufactures can quote so people know it is right and good as it can be for the given price and complexity,,e.g an HMS Victory at £300 can have a top rating the same as a £1000 model it just shows quality for that price range.. OK so it opens a million cans of worms about who and how it is done... but would have been nice

    I agree with Duke, whilst my current Billings Bounty build is not in Phils league it does deserve a lot more detailing than the basic kit. Reading the different build logs on NRG has significantly helped raise my model up to a more suitable level.--

    I would like to add an ensign (if that is correct for the Bounty) and some signalling flags, where and how would they be hoisted on the Bounty? The Billings kit came with a small badly printed ensign to be mounted on the top of the main mast but no clues on how and where the lines would be tied off on deck. Thanks ian

    Thanks Nils, I keep her on show and have done since it was a bear frame and as friends and visitors stop by they see her evolve, I am new to the hobby and just so pleased I have found it , it is giving me great pleasure, and with this website what would been traditionally a very solitary hobby has become very social sharing past time too.

    Well she is getting under sail..... I abandoned the material supplied by Billings it was still as a board and had no texture, I bought some curtain lining material from the local sewing shop, it has a good weave, colour and very thin.... I stitched vertical lines using my wife's sewing machine (another new skill for my CV) to simulate the canvas strips. It is more of a cream colour than the pictures portray.

    I am just finishing my first model and already have made a mental note to use cotton between planks on my next build. I have seen this technique on several builds on here and they do look great. good luck, hope you have as much fun on your first as I am.. Ian

    The more I read of this project and the closer I get to completing my current build, the more impatient and excited I am about doing my first scratch build and a build I will try to complete as accurately as I possibly can :) From what I am guessing my boat should be finished around the time Chuck releases the plans. A bit like trying to sleep on Christmas eve LOL!!!! Ian

    Hi, I shall follow you with interest as it looks a very good size for displaying. Some of the models on here really do need some serious room!, there are a few Bounty's being built on here of various kits and scales so plenty of inspiration for you. Good luck with the build Ian

    Thanks John, the anchor buoy and the stern whilst not accurate are in the spirit and feel of the age. I have added lots of small details thanks to the inspiration of some amazing build logs. My Second build will be a lot more disciplined when it comes to accuracy - still undecided what it will be yet. As for now I am just nagging my wife t get out and show me how to work the sewing machine so I can do the sails ..
