  1. Thanks Chuck, really enjoying the build. Once I get the planking done and I make start the decking I shall be placing my order for the cannons, windlass and things. Will you be doing a blocks/tackle and rigging list for us to order?
  2. Well I have spent the last couple of days planking and just over the half way mark on both sides--- The 'dark' Cheerful gets darker LOL! Any more darker in colour and I will rename her HMS Miserable I have given the lower planks a light sanding and one coat of stain, but the whole hull will need a proper sanding when I finally fill the gap.
  3. I wonder if it was just the Victory or are all the other yellow/ochre stripped ships of that era pink? It was interesting to hear that the captains cabin and at least one gun deck was baby blue...
  4. your doing great, I am just starting my planking and it is well worth seeing your approach to it.-thanks
  5. Regardless of true scale debate, the new barrel looks so right and menacing in the bow -- loving the build so far Matt..
  6. super model, I am a sail ship fan but I am now so tempted to build something similar after following this build, looking forward to your U47 :D
  7. I know I said it was a great build etc, and I am sure that are some super model builders around but it was the extra time taken to document, photograph and explain as well as building it that I know we all appreciated
  8. Brilliant Dan, loved following this superb build. So many great ideas and tips I am sure we will all use. Ian
  9. ha ha, looks great and lovely workman ship, I am glad it is just not me that does not always read Chucks super instructions ,
  10. I got a little distracted today so had a 'practice' at making the window vent section. It looked and felt big making it but looks so small on the model...
  11. The 'dark cheerful' now has wales and I sat down last night and put in all the nails (using Chucks drill, pencil and fill technique) on everything above the nails on either side, It does not show up in the picture but does look good (in my eyes) in real life-- very subtle.
  12. Now add a bit of detail-- I drilled the holes ,cut down some pin heads and painted them black . It is amazing how much you can get done when you have a day off work....
  13. Well the stern has been built and I decided as it was going to be painted anyway it was a good timie to paint the inside of the stern-- this is where Chuck pops up and says ' don't do that because'.........
  14. Well I have started planking and made the monumental decision -- to make my Cheerful Oak coloured, I just like the idea of her looking slightly weathered. This afternoon I shall paint and fit the two layer of the wales. so more pictures to come later today which 'should ' show the Oak colour better.
  15. Looking great, I am at the same stage--- it took me three attempts to get the stern correct--- my problem??? I never read the excellent instructions that Chuck had written until the third time I did it ha ha ha
  16. I now have a good source of Boxwood and it was only 40 minutes up the road from me , so I started cutting the stern parts out yesterday and what a difference working with boxwood is-- it is so nice compared the bass wood and ply wood etc from my Billings kit experience. More pictures when the stern is finished PS I used www.Originalmarquetry.co.uk in Bristol...
  17. top paint job--- super use of traditional looking paint shades and patterns
  18. I have only just caught up with this super build. I am really really REALLY!!! not a fan of figures on model boats---- until....... I saw what you have done-- and totally converted -- amazing ---love it :D :D :D :D :D :D
  19. brilliant , I have been dropping in and out of this build and it has been fascinating to watch it grow-- well done
  20. Thanks Guys I am sure I will get sorted now I will let you know how I get on. Ian
  21. Hi I am building Chucks 'Cutter Cheerful' and would like to try using Boxwood as per his example but having trouble sourcing in the UK. I have mailed a couple of model wood supplier but they have not got back to me yet..so being impatient not a trait good for model boat building LOL!!-- Is there a UK supplier someone can recommend or is there another similar wood that is available in the UK I could use? Thanks Ian
  22. Hi Chuck. I was thinking the same thing as they will be quite prominent. I still need to look for a UK supplier of box wood, then invest in a decent saw so I can cut the planks etc.... What does not show up on the picture but to my mind looks great on my keel are the mock nail/bolt holes using your drill-pencil mark and fill technique.
  23. well 6 days later and it is really taking shape All I need do next is cut out all these cheeky little monkeys LOL!
