mtdoramike got a reaction from mtaylor in Trireme Olympias by Richard Braithwaite
What a beautiful ship, great work on her.

mtdoramike got a reaction from mtaylor in New Here--Suggestions for a beginner
Run don't walk to the nearest exit and look for another hobby........, just kidding, ship modeling can be fun and rewarding. Rigging is my favorite part of ship modeling, it's what brings the model to life and makes people Ooooo and awwww over it. There are books on thre fundementals of boat rigging and once you realize they are all basically rigged the same, it becomes fun although a bit mind numbing at times.

mtdoramike reacted to TimC in HMS Fly by TimC - FINISHED - Amati/Victory Models - First Time Builder
First post in a long time (again) but I’ve made more forward progress ! I have been able to complete the lower shrouds and ratlines as well as the Catharpins, platforms with railings, the additional masts for the lifeboat, and the forward portion of the crowsfeet. I was able to take some learning experiences from these processes to know what to do/not do for my next ship. There were some areas with the Catharpins that I just did not leave enough room to work around but the effect works just the same.
I hope everyone has a happy Halloween! 🎃

mtdoramike got a reaction from Bill Morrison in Best HMS Victory kit?
Yeah and we all know bigger doesn't necessarily mean better.

mtdoramike reacted to Ian_Grant in HMS Victory by Bill97 - FINISHED - Heller - 1/100 - PLASTIC
Hi Bill; That's how the topgallant shrouds (not the backstay) tie off, in the mast tops - the deadeye shown is one of the topmast shroud deadeyes with the short iron plate to which the futtock shrouds hook.
This photo shows my model's maintop. The thimbles inboard of the shroud deadeyes and lanyards can be seen, as can the black topgallant mast shrouds rising inside the ratlines. Also you can just see the hooks on the futtock shrouds below the top.

Thanks Bob, the previous builder did very well on the build.

mtdoramike got a reaction from Waitoa in I have adopted another orphaned kit
A Billings Nordkap R/C finishing boat. A ladies husband recently passed away while working on this kit. I was asked if I would accept it and finish it, which I humbly agreed to do. I was not only humbled, but honored that I would be asked to do so. I will strive to make his vision for this model a reality and make her all se can be.
I have several projects going, but couldn't say no, nor did I want to.

Another fine model rescued! It looks like the previous builder got a nice start on her. It’s very kind of you to finish this one for his wife. Good luck, Mike. I’m sure your do this project proud.
