  1. Marc this is looking just fantastic!!👍 and I'm still in awe on your carvings. I racked my brains trying to figure out how I was going to sculpt Victory's figurehead and decided on Sculpey modeling clay, but the plastic gives so much more detail and as you work your way up the stern the figures appear to be more 3 dimensional and really looking forward to seeing those!. Michael D.
  2. Thank you Marc, it means a lot coming from one of the well respected modelers on this site. Michael D.
  3. All 40 flags and associated tassels are now completed along with the fire pit base. Work continues at a snail's pace on the oars and although I only have 7 fully completed with the estropes installed and bearded to the benches, I'm starting to see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks for looking. Michael D
  4. Great start on the sails👍. I share the same thoughts as Allen as the fabric being overscale and that may be the case if you were setting them up under full sail, but since they will be furled I think they will look good. Michael D.
  5. Taking a much-needed break from the flag and oar modification, I decided to tackle installing the rudder chain using a single chain arrangement, looks okay. Michael D.
  6. Just Beautiful work Maurice! your craftsmanship and attention to detail are on full display👍. Michael D.
  7. Thank you gentlemen for the kind words. Frank I did have make them following Hellers instructions, I used 0.50mm taped to a dowel, in this case my xacto knife and wrapped the 0.25mm line around it about 20 times then cinched the 0.50 mm line before cutting the smaller line on the opposite side. I cinched the smaller line to the tassels with a simple overhand knot and twisted it with my fingers to form the seizing, trimmed and some paint touchup. The completed stern flag. Michael D.
  8. I started back to work on the Ole Reale De France after a nine- month hiatus, using the supplied Heller paper flags as a pattern to be transferred to fabric, these can be seen in post #167, I eliminated about half the Fleur De Lis and the stripes that ran between them as the flag was looking more gold than red on my first attempt. I've completed all the railing flags and the large and small pennant flags along with the tassels on the main yard and continued modifications to the endless oars. Thanks for looking. Michael D.
  9. Bill, Looking good as usual 👍, but curious as to why you used dead eyes at the bowsprit horse eye bolts on the gangboard?. I've never seen them rigged like before. Michael D.
  10. Looking Bill👍. The bowsprit yards use slings and the lower fore and main yards use truss pendants, hope this helps.? Michael D.
  11. It's my muscle car I've owned for 37 years Frank, unrelated to ship modeling..😉 Michael D.
  12. Hi Frank, I think you did great job on the garland, a tricky phase for sure and for the rest of your model....just jaw dropping👍. I hope to return working on mine soon, been working on my full size model, 72 Nova. Michael D.
  13. Well done Clark 👍. How wide is that case with the oars displayed?, looks pretty deep. I wonder how the oars would be stored when not in use? Michael D.
  14. Hi Europapete, Another alternative is to simply set into a waterline base without cutting the hull like this, just a thought. Dan you probably recognize this from another site long ago? Michael D.
  15. Nice job on the Carronades, well done Bill👍. Oddly I've never really found a need to reinforce masts and yards, not that there's anything wrong with that, I just use very little tension myself.. You've made remarkable progress thus far and at the point now where the real fun begins and with your skill set I have no doubt it will look great, heck it took me over the course of 11 years....4 years actual working time to complete my Victory. Michael D.
  16. I fondly remember your build on the Le Superbe Maurice...exquisite!!. The Soliel Royale was my first attempt at tissue paper sails and kit bashing, still can't believe it took only 8.5 months to complete, sure do miss that old forum though...Cheers. Michael D.
  17. Actually this is a good thing Bill, gives you a chance to knock down the pronounced raised grain and create a more natural looking grain with the sandpaper, something I wished I had done on my Victory...happy sanding my friend👍 Michael D.
  18. Bill, Not sure what paints you used, but obviously an incompatibility issue and you mentioned this happened on the port side and not starboard? looks to me like you went a little heavy on the clear and it attacked color coat. I use acrylic paints and seal with a Lacquer dulcoat in light coats and never had issue. This is unfortunate as you were moving along nicely, but for me the only solution would be to strip it off, but I would first try to see if I could sand enough to get rid of the cracks, either way a repaint.😝 Michael D.
  19. Very nice work as always Frank👍 and the last 2 pics showing the rudder chains arrangement helps a lot!!. Michael D.
  20. Hi John, The 2mm blocks will be the ticket and since a redo is in order remember to use the upper sheave of the blocks when rigging and I second Radimir in his helpfulness 👍. Your S/R is looking wonderful by the way. Michael D.
  21. That's an interesting canopy setup you added along with the windows , well done👍. Also I see you added some kind of cover on the deck? Michael D.
  22. I love seeing this take shape and a clever fix for the bulkhead elevation issue Marc👍. I remember my S/R being slightly off as you have shown in post #1573 and my Victory was actually square in that regard, but slightly twisted at the stern, one will never notice it once you complete the build. Michael D.
  23. Hi Schmidt, Thanks for sharing pictures of your stunning model, just beautiful! and I do like the somewhat weathered look and contemplated that for mine, but decided to go with a more pristine/new look, I'm looking forward on your progress. Michael D.
