  1. Yes it is Hiei, not ypically Japanese in appearance at least not in this photo before all the platforms were added to the tripod mast.Congratulations Eamonn, when I found the last one,at first I googled Airstream boat,I ended up looking through everyone's holiday snaps and didn't find it Kind Regards Nigel P.S. 1hour and 40 minutes so I must be finding harder ones
  2. No but it looks like one, that's why I picked it Rgds Nigel
  3. Cheers Jason. She has a striking resemblance to an airstream caravan.I will post something later today in the attempt to find something not so easy as my previous posts seem to have been Kind Regards Nigel
  4. Fabulous build Mark.I seem to be being drawn more and more to Wasa build logs.I think my subconscious is trying to tell me something Kind Regards Nigel
  5. Fabulous work Daniel I am in awe of your attention to detail at this scale Kind Regards Nigel
  6. Welcome to the forum shihawk.I personally am not a great fan of paint on builds for myself.Where colour is necessary I try to use wood of the necessary colour. This is one reason why I wouldn't build Victory unless it was as launched,i.e.no Nelson chequer. However, but it does mean changing the kit timber, have a look at Vanguard by Alexey Domanoff in the kit build section. He has used timber to produce the stripes and IMHO looks ten times better than paint. Kind Regards Nigel
  7. I don't believe it,I thought that may have been hard Well done Seahorse, over to you Kind Regards Nigel
  8. You shouldn't have quenched them.In order to anneal them you need to heat them and allow to cool slowly at their own rate.I have had the same problem and I think Panart /Sergal employees have a giggle to themselves when they pack the kit.Exactly the same as yours with my Soleil Royal, plenty of length to the box but they were bent double.I replaced mine with timber mouldings painted gold.If you wish to go that route the modeldockyard.com based in Truro stock various timber profiles from Amati and Caldercraft, however that would take some soaking/steaming to get around the balcony at your stern. Kind Regards Nigel
  9. Great work Michael When you see the before and after pictures, you really notice the improvement. The total sum of all the smaller alterations all add up to a massive difference. Kind Regards Nigel
  10. Ok then 'name the shippers' here is my entry Good luck Kind Regards Nigel
  11. Thank you very much indeed Kobus for your kind words I have been slowly plodding on treenailing the inside of the hull, not the easiest of tasks I have to admit, but I have nearly finished the starboard side.I shall post some pics when that is done. Kind Regards Nigel
  12. Looking good Matti Are the cross pieces standard kit parts?I ask because kit makers quite often supply these of far too large a section and yours look spot on. Kind Regards Nigel
  13. Thank you very much indeed Nat Progress has slowed a little at the moment due to other projects but I hope to finish the internal hull faces and get the lower gun deck in within the next few weeks. Kind Regards Nigel
  14. Thank you Eamonn.Perhaps a few too many clues to start with.As soon as discovered the colours were Arklow Shipping and I had the year,it was fairly simple to find.I shall post a new pick later on today. Kind Regards Nigel
  15. Thank you very much indeed Mark.In Sergal's defence there seems to be a wealth of reference material appear over the last few years, that wasn't readily available when they designed the kit.I think that's the main reason they based their kit on Sepping's model in the NMM Greenwich,London. Kind Regards Nigel
  16. Yes Brian, they do a larger miller, but this is for larger jobs and model engineering. The large machine doesn't have a high enough RPM to run small cutters. The MF70 runs up to 20,000 rpm so no problem using their smallest milling cutter which is 1mm.I think for the general work we encounter on model ships, this is probably the most versatile machine off the shelf.I have seen pictures of Alex Banarov's cnc mill on his forum,it's custom built and looks like something from the space program, but perhaps a little too extravagant for our needs. He actually produces carvings with this machine from a 3D computer model. Kind Regards Nigel
  17. Hi Brian The machine comes with two stepped clamps to hold various thickness material but I also purchased the precision vice to go with it..I have the cheap proxxon machine vice I use for the pillar drill but bought the precision one for the miller. All faces a surface ground square and it is a very nice piece of kit. Kind Regards Nigel
  18. I bought my first proxxon tool the MF70 miller a few weeks ago and put it to work a few days ago.More than happy with the performance and I was getting accuracy around 5/100ths of a mm so I have nothing but praise for the product and won't hesitate to add more of their tools to my lineup. It does exactly what it is supposed to do,yes I wouldn't use it to machine a v8 engine block, but that is not what it is designed for.The beauty of the proxxon range is that they make the tools we want that others don't. Kind Regards Nigel
  19. Fantastic work Jack. What is the overall sizes of the hull,it's difficult to gauge from the pictures. She looks really tall and wide, despite being only 1/100 scale. Kind Regards Nigel
  20. Now that you have an enforced six month sabatical from building work and having to concentrate on PC work.Do you plan to do any personal building,or are you glad of the rest?Just wondered if we are going to see a build log popping up anytime soon? P.S. I think we have both been very lucky regarding the weather going by the national news earlier in the week. Kind Regards Nigel
