Beautiful job, Martin. That case really sets it all off too. Stunning
Big question.....what project next?
Hello Jim,
Thank you for the nice words!
I would be interested in the Amati Victory. I see that you are doing the same project! Since this is a prototype, I guess you work by plan only. This is probably quite a challenge, but what can you do, when therer is no kit available?!
Good luck with it !

A masterpiece; very nicely done!
Thank you very much! It took a long time , but finally I made it.
I see that you are doing the Victory. That might be my next project, too. Initially I was hoping for the Amati Victory 1:64, but I am afraid they will never put it out for sale...

Well done sailor. Very, very well done.

PS
Where did you get those figures? They are wonderful.
Thank you Mort!
The figures were ordered from Krick, A German company. They were the same scale as the ship 1:64 and from the same era (fortunately!). The only thing I had to do was paint them.

Hello,
Some time has passed. It took me a long time to find someone, who send me the parts to build the display case. I stained the oak parts in mahagony and put varnish over it. Then I glued the parts together. Finally I measured the slots for the glass panes and ordered them online. There are only two panes missing, then I will be totally finished.

Hello Henrik,
Thank you for the nice words. I am still not sure what to do next. This is my fifth historic ship model . Perhaps I will try something completely different, for example a radio controlled boat, a tug-boat perhaps like the Imara.
The Amati Victory would be interesting, too, but they have not yet made it available - unfortunately.
By the way, I have just watched a Swedish movie (Let the right one in). This movie really impressed me, reminded me of my youth/childhood...
Happy modelling Henrik.
Greetings from Germany,

Hi Martin.
A phantastic model. What a highlight for each livingroom. I made a display case out of special wood strips you can buy for cases. They fit for 4 mm glass. I painted them black. But you can also give them some varnish. Then just buy the 5 peaces of glass and stick it together with some transparent silicone. Leave the top and maybe the front glass without silicone, so you can open it, if necessary.
It worked well. Here is a photo of the display case.
Matthias
Thank you Matthias for your suggestion. Your case looks really good. Especially the bottom part. The problem of the Agamemnon is the size; 130x50x100cms. I hope this is not causing any problems...

Hello again,
Now I am almost finished. Only two things I have to do: Build a stand (I will make a similar stand to the one used during building, only with new timber.
The other remaining task is to organize (buy?) a display case. I tried to order one from a British company that is selling acrylic cases custom- made. Unfortunately they do not provide cases of the size of the Agamemnon😩
If one of you has a suggestion for me, you are welcome!!

Hi Guys,
Well I have finally taken some pics of the case and will post them now.
Thank you one and all very much for your much appreciated support, comments, suggestion, remarks and help, not forgetting all those who hit the "like" button.
As you will see I had to pull the sideboard away from the wall by 5 inches, thinking that would be enough the said case was positioned by two burley friends of mine and guess what, it stuck out by a further 2 inches.
So there we are, these last few pics really do wrap this story up, hope you enjoyed the journey, hopefully I'll see you on the dark side, Popcorn is kindly supplied Sjors but you will need to bring your own torch.
Be Good

Hello mobbsie,
Your Agamemnon looks really great, especially in that display case. I have mostly finished mine (after a very very long time). I still have to make a stand. But my biggest problem is the display case. I gave in the measurements at the site of a company that makes display cases, but it was too large for them to build. Could you give me a hint, how I could solve that problem? I see your display case looks fantastic!
Greetings

Hi Martin and thanks for the great comments. The Deag Vasa is probably the most accurate one out there as Fred Hocker from the Vasa museum had a lot of input into the kit . There are still a few bits that need changing like the hallards as the rigging has been simplified probably for first time builders. Also there is a missing gunport on the quarter deck and a missing post ports but these are very easy to fix . The carvings are really good and there are a lot of them. I thoroughly enjoyed building this model and I really recommend it.
Martyn
Thank you Martyn , if I should decide to build a Vasa as a next project, I will try this one. I see flaws and "mistakes" in a kit as a challenge and almost all kits need some modifications. Important for me is that it is close to the original and the deAgostini seems to be very close!
Greetings Martin

Hello Martyn,
You are doing a great job, I really like your Vasa and the figurines let the ship come alive!
I am almost finished with my present ship (Agamemnon) and I consider doing the Vasa next. By coincidence I came upon the de Agostini version. Before, I only knew of the Corel, Mantua and Billing boat kits. But since the people from the Vasa museum seem to approve to the DeAgostini vasa, I wonder if it is the best version Do you agree? Can you recommend buying it?
Happy modelling and
greetings from Germany

I've loved your work since San Felipe. This is just beautiful.
Thank you Jim. I liked your San Felipe , too !
Right now I am contemplating what to do next. Should I continue with the Batavia scratch build project, or will this be too complicated ?
The Wasa is also a ship that appeals to me. Or should I do something completely new, like a radio controlled, swimming tug boat for example?
I still have a few months for a decision, I guess 😉

Danke für die netten Worte, habe aus privaten Gründen ein paar Jahre Pause gemacht. Als es mir besser ging habe ich einfach das Modell abgestaubt und weitergemacht!
Ahoi und frohes Schaffen!

That is looking real good, Martin.
On the homeward leg now.
What's up after this one? Amati Victory?
Hello Jim,
Thanks for the kind words. I am not sure what to do next, there is still the Batavia scratch build that is unfinished...
I see you are doing the Amati Victory. I did not even know that there is a Victory from Amati.
Hope your project is going well, I will have a look soon!
Greetings Martin
P.S.: I just had a search for the Amati Victory: It is a 1 :64 monster, even bigger than the Caldercraft version, but it is not (yet?) released.
Well it is tempting for me to be honest: Chris Watton has a very good reputation!
