  1. There is a sense of achievement finally fitting the topgallants. The topgallant futtock shrouds and thimbles were attached first which gets really fiddly seizing them properly to the Topmast shrouds. Strangely, the masts ended up aligned! 12 shrouds and 4 backstays to go. Finally given the Endeavour's strong ties to Australia, a boxing day BBQ is always on the cards, so the BBQ photo. Hope you all had a happy Christmas.
  2. I just had a look at Frolich's Xebec Le Requin, it has the guns fully rigged, that is with tackle on each side of the carriages, breaching rope. From the look of the photo you've shown they didn't bother to add them to their model. You'll need some 2mm blocks for your scale of 1:75
  3. Topmast blocks added. The jeer blocks slung under the shrouds required me to make eyelets and sling them. It looks really busy (it is) and because of the close ups looks somewhat out of scale, but by the time the topgallant shrouds are added and eventually the yards, the tension of the blocks should look correct.
  4. The topmast blocks. Does not seem much of an update, but it's taken a week of hard slog (sorry Capt'n) between work commitments to get these done. I've placed them on a blown up image of the AOTS Endeavour topmast to show placement. As you can see each block has a served rope, so I've shown my little serving machine. Very expensive. Really quick too, I can get about a foot of rope done in in 5 minutes. The Jeer blocks will need to go under the shrouds then strapped above the ropes on the mast, thus the open eyelet. My next block of days off (no pun intended) I can fit them to the masts.
  5. Thankyou, I'm afraid it's not that good, I can see every sin. Our cat chewed one of the bumpkins fraying one of the stays for it so I now live in fear.
  6. Mizzen topmast stays. This was the most difficult as the thimble that goes on the end of the stay had to be put on whilst it was rigged. fat fingers and backstays do not mix. Now to have some fun and rig the blocks under and over the shrouds.
  7. Fore topmast stays. I've used the Clasic Models violin blocks. I cheated somewhat doing the mice by using a parrel bead served over to make the smaller bulge required. I really had to guess the belaying point as I can't find reference to one anywhere.
  8. Pat, I did the crows feet as the very last part of the lower mast assembly after stepping to keep the tension on them correct off the stays and to save snagging them on everything whilst doing the final rigging. I had to keep dry fitting the top masts to ensue alignment was correct.
  9. As the other Endeavour club members are getting on with it, i thought that i'd try and keep trundling on with the Topmasts. The backstays now completed, just on to the stays and their mice next. I'd just like to say I'm crap at photography of small stuff - but at least it hides the fluffy lines. iPhones are not the best if cameras but very easy.
  10. Looks good. I ordered my lantern from Chuck last week as well. I used rataan for my hoops.
  11. I had to file the end of mine to fit. The AOTS shows some angles which I can't replicate. As for your waning enthusiasm, don't worry, I'm lucky to get an hour in a week on mine!
  12. I'm with mikec, it looks fantastic. Is your's the larger scale, my endeavour is 1/64?
  13. Breast backstays. The backstay needs to be separated at the mast, thus the little jig so it allows me to ensure the blocks are even on each side, and allows them to be served on. Tye tackle next, then backstays and stays.
  14. Topmast ratlines and futtock staves and catharpins. It's getting to the really fiddly stage up high. I'm terrified I'm going to break something. I've done the ratlines (which will thankfully be the second last lot until the Topgallants) and the futtock staves and 15mm catharpins. It looks clumsy (it is) but I have to use a beige line then stain it as i just can't see the bloody lines to control it otherwise. the stave itself is just plastic rod which as you can see runs long for ease of control. There was some torsion from the fall of the stays which was corrected by the catharpins and will be lost when the Topgallant shrouds are attached. It will look very busy. This is a very painful process and I am looking forward to adding the breast backstay, Topsail yard tye tackle and backstays. I forgot to ask, does anyone else use toenail clippers as flush cutters for their rigging lines? works better than any other took I have found.
  15. You are amazing, I bet you are one of those red cordial kids with so much on the go at once!
  16. Everything conflicts with the Endeavour! Mine looks nothing like the AL kit. I think I've replaced or scratch built everything apart from the wood on the deck (which I now regret I did'nt replace) and the bulkheads. As long as you are happy, we will be!
  17. Yep, it all makes too much sense really. Imagine climbing ratlines at an angle? You'd just slip off!
  18. Question for Endeavour builders. The rat lines on the Mussen mast. As it runs at a different angle to the main and fore mast, do the topsail rat lines still run parallel to the deck? It makes sense that they do but the AOTS makes them look as if they don't. It's only a few degrees but it can't be right.
