Eberhard,
Question what are the advantages of plexiglass instead of wood. I like the idea and it seems it may be more forgiving and easier to work with.
Educate me on plexiglass for dummies.
Thanks

Lest we forget, great pictures.
The horrors and atrocities of WWII cannot be forgotten we have despots right now preaching nationalism worldwide even in this country.
Don't say it can't happen again. Look what the little corporal with the funny mustache did in Germany.
Should be a required course in school.
Again Vega great pictures Tom Brokaw called them the greatest generation. Thanks to all who served in all conflicts to protect this country, our freedom and defend our Constitution.

This last run was made on a bet that the captain William Foster could make the trip bring the 110 slaves to Mobile and not get caught. Pretty gutsy since then it was illegal and he and his crew could be executed. He off loaded the slaves just north of the old Scott paper mill what is now known as Plateau, not far from the Mobile River, then ran the boat upriver and burned her.
Interesting special on local TV with descendants that still live in the area one of whom was Cleon Jones who played on the Championship New York Mets.

I am with Druxey. Stupid is as stupid does, went to Hobby Lobby bought wire that stated it was brass on the back the fine print said brass colored. Found that out after trying to clan and blacken nothing worked.
You also have to be careful ordering on line.

Andrea,
Just caught your build. I believe your overthinking and are caught in the conundrum of perfection.
Maybe at this point throw the templates to the side and use your minds eye as to shape and form, work the hull free hand comparing to what you see in instructions, to what pics are available.
Your first build with no experience we do not want perfection at this stage we want to enjoy, have some fun, and not get discouraged. (I think about now your thinking trash can do not do it)
I started the HMS Victory, got caught up in shrouds and ratlines using a marked card as a guide (a system almost all used) it was a disaster. I cut out all the ratlines 2 times man they were ugly. The third time I placed the first at the bottom the next line at the quarter and the next at the half then at the top, dividing the ratlines on the shrouds in quarters. Then I free handed with no guide. They turned out perfect each of us can find ways or shortcuts thinking outside the box, I am still an amateur.
Apologize I get on my soapbox and I can hear everyone moaning.
Okay lets have some fun its wood you can't kill it finish shaping. Everyone has ideas about tools. I have thin pockets so shop cheap. You should have a Dremel (personally I like the 8050 micro with the built in battery and separate charger last I checked can be bought for under $ 85.00 USD) its a tough light tool I have abused mine its like the old Timex watch commercial it takes a licking and keeps on ticking (showed my age). Your standard knife and blades, sand paper. A lot of folks make their own tools check that category.
Don't know whats in your tool bag at this time since I just jumped in.
OKAY get started eyeball it, have fun filler can be your friend, do not get discouraged. If it's too much at this time
make it take a nap for now and purchase a small beginner plank on frame.
Many builders have several mothballed builds that did not start good and finished later. Enough of my drivel as you know there is a lot of help here GOOD LUCK.

Frank,
Kudos on the birds, had a friend carved a couple of ducks for me, he's won numerous awards and was featured in several magazines. I had seen none to compare until you posted yours, your a cut above.
Question on the dredge? the bag is constructed like you started with line and rings on the bottom edges of the guide bars. The bags belly where the oysters collect is all rings because the sharp edges of the shell will cut line, are you going to make those rings as you have done or substitute other material. That's a lot of work.

ften, a dental depot will sell burs and bits less expensive than a hobby shop.
When I asked my dentist how he disposed of his burs he said he threw them away. Then I asked was it possible to obtain any of them. He readily acceded but said he would have to sterilize or autoclave them first. Went back 3 days later and received a nice baggy of assorted burs over 50. Some had heavy use but cut threw wood like butter.
Had been going to him for over 30 yrs. so may not have been problematic for him. Free is nice.

Mark,
After a quick check I find the nickname for the one pounder in the 1800s was called by the British an insurance cannon and was a falconet, according to Wipedia believe you were looking for something more apropos like stinging bee, little killer, or a solid shot enema for those trying to board from longboats.
I'm sure this is not what you were looking for but threw it out there anyway.

The bottle is nice, the boat is nice, but Cap'n Sparrow really at that scale is just mind blowing and pushes the build over the top. He looks like he walked out of the movie.
A lot of great builders on this site but your work in the bottles is overboard (pardon he pun) Kudos ten times over

Methinks water discharge above the water line? other may be for an additional seawater pickup not related to engine, but used as an adjunct for washing down the boat and seawater baths to preserve the fresh water, unless there is a pump on the motor for this.
As Keith knows this comes from an individual that does not trust in the wind to take him where he is going. Which means my offered suggestion comes from someone that knows very little about the art of sailing or sailboats.

Clark,
I agree with you on first time buys. I have shallow pockets and have purchased items at harbor freight most builders scoff at but have served a purpose. In time when my personal wealth improves I will upgrade if I feel the need.
I believed your purchase over a Proxxon saved $ 200.00, since I cant afford Chateau Briand and a fine wine that's 175 dinners at McDonalds with a coke. your saw I am sure will fill your needs at this time, happy modeling.

Today is ANZAC Day the anniversary of the Gallipoli landings. Particularly remembered in Australia and New Zealand.
Something to stir a bit of history, a small event during the campaign.Sadly a massive waste of brave young men, led at that time by incompetent British officers. Sadly history repeats itself and we never learn
Jim, another nice one.

Frank,
Figured out how many teeth on the lead bar? Are you going with ring mesh bag or rope and rings, would think this would be the most difficult part of dredge build.
Good Luck John

Dave,
CA is better than sutures, it completely closes the wound and prevents infection from all the nasties running around (if it was clean to begin with).
A long time ago we carried it on our rescue vehicle for our volunteer fire department saved a lot of trips to a clinic.
But remember "fool me once shame on you-fool me twice shame on me" lets not cut any more fingers.
