What is your plan for the seats of ease at the head?  It has always seemed to me that the roundhouses on the Tanneron model really belong in the 18th century, and not the latter 17th C.  Has your research pointed you in any definitive direction?  Would the arrangement of Frolich's L'Ambiteaux be more appropriate, for example?

  4. Hello and thank you for the compliment
Indeed, the stools in a rotunda are not 17th century and rather English.
The reclining seats of the Royal Sun will be double as on the Ambitieux which is of the same time and the same site of Brest. This is part of the ongoing construction stage of the foal grating floor. But I have at the same time to finish the decorations of the smooth and squat (Heads of lion and paws, sea horse on the top of the herpes and, hunk, the naiades against the horse of bow and behind the herpes.
    See you soon

  6. The original design of the SR 1669 remains a mystery. No trace of Pierre Puget in Brest but against Toulon for the Royal Louis of the same time. Some speak of Caffieri, others of Charles Le Brun.
The only sure indications are the provisions of the windows of the stern, according to the measurements of the rooms made by Intendant Desclouzeaux during the refit of 1688. It is obvious that Berain took advantage of a quasi reconstruction of this stern, because, as said Desclouzeaux "all the highs are completely rotten". This is confirmed in the refit quote of Louis Hubac.
In Brest, Paris, Toulon, Rochefort, apart from that, no trace to my knowledge.

  7. Do not think I criticize your work that I admire in its constitution.
When the second Royal Sun of 1693, it would seem that the sculptures of the one of 1669 were deposited during its refit in 1688, because damaged. They would then have been repaired to serve for the decoration of the ex-Foudroyant.
For the Tanneron, this was what a French modékiste, Commander Vichot, had told him in his time as administrator of the Musée de la Marine in Paris.
    Good suite

  8. The base is a single piece of boxwood that has been trimmed with a scroll saw, then finishing the smooth with lime .; The head of the healds was curved with hot air on a template. Then, each branch was hollowed out with a 1 mm diamond cutter, finishing of the corners with the scalpel and smoothing of the milling with sharp chisels. The hollows of the upper and lower branches were lined with pear band and the hollows of the central beam trimmed with stripes of fleurons carved with the bistoury and chisel then the needle files.
it remains to work the decors of the vertical pillars and stick them with the flowers of lilies and a small macaroon on the center of the volutes of head.
Of course I will also have to sculpt the head of a horse that will cover the head of the heddles.
Thank you for your opinions and see you soon

    Michel

PS: I am very affected by what happened in Las Vegas.

  9. Thank you, but Frölich followed the plan of J. Boudriot. In fact, it is a mistake because the timber flows of the time did not allow this cutting. It should have done 3 or 4 pieces. I made the bet to make it in one piece for convenience reasons in the shapes because the high ear plate on the wall and is therefore arched in both directions. On the other hand if I slip it is damn ... but repairable without it shows.
