I think they meant the dive site was visible from a cliff. They were indicating how close to shore it was. -

I throw my solvent soaked rags in a bucket of water. -
Sounds like a great idea. I personally think the stand looks original in concept and I know I would purchase one.

Welcome aboard.

For the bulkheads I sanded and test fit them in the assembly stand as I went along. Took me two days to build all the frames. Then I assembled the keel assembly to the frame assemblies. I did two test runs and the two assemblies actually went together quite well on the first one. I said HMMMM that has NEVER happened before so something must be wonky so I took it apart, put it back together. Same result. So I added glue to the mix and wouldn't you know it...........Same result. This is one finely engineered and cut kit. Bravo Zulu Chuck. Fairing will have to wait a few days as the Admiral and I are off to Victoria BC for the weekend.

I decided on the Lap joint so I broke out my chisels and had at it.Taking a cue from Ken W I made a copy of the keel bolts, taped on in the appropriate spot and then going against the grain, placed it on a sacrifice piece of wood and drilled all the way through, glued in the fishing line and set it aside.

Picked up the kit at the Post Office, did an inventory and had trouble de-cypering some of the markings on the sheets. So I did a count, counts right so moving on. Got the scarf joint done and keel glued up. Will post pictures when I have more accomplished. I have an issue with builds. I really, really like to get them built and get to the rigging so I tend to hurry. A friend described as a building machine. My goal on this one is to slow down and be more precise.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
