Well, once again, not a whole lot of time in the shipyard, but I did get the copper cooling tank built. I made a wash of black paint and thinner to put on the tank to tone it down. I'll probably put a few coats on it before I'm done. Meanwhile here's a couple of pictures. This completes the individual structures for the Tryworks. I have some chainwork and paint touch ups and a couple of small details yet, but for the most part it is alsmost ready to permanently mount the entire mess to the deck....then it's Harpoon time.....maybe only about 6 or so to start with for the Shelter hanger....the rest are for the boats...

glad to see you back in here and that the wind didn't get kicked out of your sails.....wood is forgiving especially if the parts fit back together good....a little paint and off you go. sometime the damage looks much worse than what it is.....shock...and .... awe gets all of us.......hopefully this is the case with yours....good luck and thanks for before and after pictures.....makes us all go look at what's around that could inflict damage if not moved....let's all clean up our shipyards and hopefully avoid what happened to you.....

Hello Joe, I will be back up that way again for sure. I served on the USS JF Kennedy which is going to be moved to somewhere around Newport, RI and made into a museum. When they get it moved I'll be there. It might be a couple of years though. I also want to see the Morgan again when the restoration is completed. I've been on the Conny 3 times now, the last one in Sept. Henry gave us a private tour which was absolutely unreal.....what is Battleship Cove?

Thanks Robert, I relate to that so much.....I continually revert to my "real" photos for reference, and it is really remenescence of my visit in September.....it and the Constitution were the reason for our trip up east this year...went to both and loved every moment.....sorry for the things I missed allso, guess that means I'll have to go back again........

Today was rather brief in the shipyard. Got the wood scrap bin made. It sits on the port side and is where the scraps went after the oil was cooked out. From here it goes in the fire when needed as fuel.....next is the cooling tank which goes on the starboard side....

Mobbsie, yes it sits on a water cooling tank under the oven. They cycled sea water in and out to keep from setting the ship on fire. There is also a chicken coop under the workbench .... I guess if they kept the chickens warm they would lay eggs.....if not they wound up in the soup....

Hi Mobbsie, yes, she's a Whaler. The last surviving wood Whaler. Launched in 1841, now located in Mystic, Connecticut.....the oven or Tryworks processed the whale....

Hi Piet and Popeye, thanks for checking in. I probably won't be working on the wash until I have the other items around the Tryworks and see how I like it. I think it will tone down significantly with the rest of the obvious areas covered up....It won't be hard to wash the areas if it still is too bright. On the real ship it's pretty bright and doesn't distract the focal points.....more to come ........

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
