  1. Good to see you have a satisfactory backup plan......should have known...looks good my friend.
  2. Stopping by for a look at today's progress.....I see it's not posted yet, oh well....I'm bendin an elbow of Leffe Blond to ya.....good stuff.
  3. Hi Grant, the appearance in the pictures seem to support your size. Since the bottoms of the cleats seem to be lashed over, the lengths of the top seem to be less "prominent" .......just an inexperienced eye chiming in.....
  4. I have a question for anyone that can help. My kit only came with a very small (2') length of .20" black wire for use on the chainplates. I am almost out, and haven't even finished with the portside foremast. I have brass wire though. The question is if I make and install the chainplates in brass, can I go back and "paint" them with Micro-Mark's "Blacken It" and not damage the wood deadeyes and will the metal take the finish? I have some Blacken-It on order but it won't be here until next Friday...I have no experience with blackening metal...I'd like to be working on them while I wait.....or should I wait and apply the metal finish to the wire prior to using for chainplates.....thanks for any advice......
  5. Thanks for all the likes guys, much appreciated. Lawrence, glad you're enjoying it, I know I certainly am. Should be rigging in the not too distant future...
  6. Yeah, prototypes get important upon mass production.....saves some time....sometimes....sorry to hear about that....
  7. Ebony is beautiful, but very difficult to work with....good luck with it Mark...
  8. Thanks for all the likes. Yes, Piet it is looking like a bow. Some more chains and then string will be floating in the air in the near future.....
  9. Hi Rowan, welcome aboard. Thanks for the cudos. Yes, I am very happy with where I am and how she's turning out. If someone would have handed me this ship a year ago and said this is what you'll have in a year I would have thought that they were out of their minds. I have surprised myself with this one, and it has been a ball to build it. A bunch of your Mates from Down Unda are on this forum....enjoy .... they are incredible craftsmen.....
  10. Here is today's ......limited....progress. Not much but once again it is progress. My time in the shipyard has been torn between life and yard.....Strange, we went from 17 F day before yesterday, and last afternoon I was grilling on the deck. Today in the 60's....go figure.....So anyways, here are pictures of what got done today. A little more work on the masts, and I got the anchors hung. These anchors will be changed soon. When I bought my kit, the one thing the guy did was to glue and paint the anchors, and glue and paint the cauldrons for the Tryworks. No idea why....so, I have ordered more anchors from MS, however they are out of stock. So I went ahead and hung them off and all I will need to do is undo 1 brass ring to replace them. I want to have the anchor in Brittania, and the anchor stocks in wood. So once recieved I'll be changing these out......
  11. Wow, those little strippers worked really good. Those kind of tools would really be handy for a lot of things. Very good Augie......geez what you can do with a mill.....I know they came with it, but you could make some too.....looks good....
  12. Oh man, now were down to making microscopic sheaves.......what next Grant???? how about microscopic food, I'm sure the Chief Bo'sun would like to eat....?? really Mate, that's outstanding, it'll be interesting to see how they work as well as look.....nice repair.....
  13. I think basswood is good if you're going to paint it or cover it up with copper, past that to me it is just really too soft to hold a lot of detail, even though I didn't spend the $'s to change it out on mine. I should have, but .......
  14. Look forward to more pictures.....I'll be watching like you know who
