Sea Hoss

I think I may consider homicide if my Syren was violated like yours.... just kidding maybe...we tend to fall in love with these creations that we spend years getting to know plank by plank, yard by yard, plan by plan! I've already though about having to move, my ships go with ME, nobody touches them! I go crazy when the cleaning lady wants to dust around the ones that are out. She knows not to go near them....looking good, get her back to her glory.

Wow, that's not the Picket Boat I have in mind! Looks like from "Gilligan's Island" where's the Skipper? Ya I thought about making this model look, battle scarred, but me being such a perfectionist, had to make her look straight out of the ship yard... I like the battle used look too, so many good renditions of her on the site, I bow to the realistic modelers. Had to strive for ship shape.

Began and finished the boiler part of the steam plant. Starting the engine portion now...The boiler sure takes up a lot of room in the boat, must have been cramped!

This Niagra looks great... I always figured it would be too much like The Syren but looking through your build log, I see there are wonderful differences. I recently finished Syren and am now well into The US Picket Boat #1. The Niagra and Syren are so pleasing to the eye that I may well get the Niagra in the future. I also want to pick out a nice long build like USS Constitution By MS. Keep up the great work!

Hey out there in knowledgeville, can anyone tell me if that plumbing on the aft end of the boiler (Detail 1-6), is supposed to be a water level sight glass? I would think so but before I go trying to dig up research, I figured I'd ask here, thanks in advance, John D. AKA Sea Hoss.

More completed on Picket Boat. Made some changes as influenced by all the fine Picket Boat builds logged on the site.

Great work! You portray a "feeling" as well as a visual...I also work with water colors, although I have mostly directed my efforts doing portraiture, both human and animal. People love them and they make great gifts.

Beautiful "Old Ironsides" amazing! Makes me look sort of , disappointedly at my plastic Revel Constitution... but it was really my first large ship model, just hadn't found the joy of wooden models yet.

Frames and coal bins added. Saw in one of the builds here, leaving one of the coal bin hatches open, adds more interest I think!

Began fitting bulkheads and frames, cockpit is complete.

Forming the bow and stern fillers while I wait for parts to dry, assembly tomorrow!

Ya Jim, I looked at all the Picket Boat builds here, very good ideas there! I've already begun to modify the parts to look more realistic, big fun!

Starting my next build, USN Picket Boat #1.  I've discovered that this ship modeling is an addiction! Couldn't even wait a week after finishing "Syren" to begin this one! Well, after inventorying the kit, I put the keel together. Here we go again...
