Welcome back to my Winchelsea build log. Once again, I’ve neglected it for several months. I’m working on chapter 10 and have finished planking down the center of the quarter-deck. The outboard planks were very challenging, and I’m pretty happy with my results. I did manage to screw up the binnacle to the point that I’ll be reaching out to Chuck for a new one. And I think I will leave it bright to match my capstan. I’m now starting to clean up the breast rail uprights. This will take me a while because I plan to leave them bright like Chuck’s.

Chapter 3 is still one of my favorite parts of this whole project. The stern and q-galleries are spectacular and were so much fun to build. Cats are wonderful, aren't they? I found one of mine using Winnie as a bed right after I put the subfloor down in Chapter 4. I think that little bite mark on the transom will be completely covered by a molding. The one on the upright might be high enough that it will be cut off when you put the railing on in Chapter 10.

Hi Archie. Modeler's Sawmill is a good source for the wood, and they can mill it all for you so you are ready to go. Their quality is outstanding. Here is a link to the wood packages page of their site: https://www.modelerssawmill.com/wood-packages.php. This was not available when I started my Winchelsea. I began by milling my own strips. They came out just OK. When I needed more to complete the gun deck. I ordered from Modeler's Sawmill and I wished I could turn back time to have them mill the strips for the hull planking.

Beautiful work, Siggi! Those carpenters really made a lot of progress on the quarterdeck beams! Your model is a joy to follow. Enjoy that 17 degree rainy weather. We were in Orlando, FL a week ago, dying from weather in the high 30s all week!

That looks great, Gary! I've been working on chapter 9 as well and agree that not using CA was a good choice on the timberheads. I didn't use any glue on the railing, either. Just friction and the paint holds it in place. But I don't think it's going anywhere.

Glenn, they look great to me. What do you mean about the wheels being over sanded? When I read that, I was expecting to see rounded edges, but they look nice and square. Also, did you make those perfect looking quoin handles?

Thanks, JJ and Glenn. I'm glad to know I'm not alone in breaking stuff. Sometimes I feel like I should go back to my old hobby of making ochre paintings on my cave walls. Model ships might be too sophisticated for me.
