    Mark looks really good to my eyes. David mentioned mini hacksaw blades, that made me think of airsaw blades. With just a little bit of modification they fit in a #3 Exacto handle. Sam

    Been quiet for a while here. Took on some side work which took up most of my build time. I havent been totally away, been following along on various builds quietly and catching a few minutes of bench time whenever I can. I "finished" the ladders, they need to be remade, the steps are a bit crooked and on one there is a noticeable gap at the rail. I was so pleased with my joinery on the rails and bits I figured I could do the ladders by hand also...........NOT!!! They just arent what I want so I picked up a dremel bit and this weekend I will remake me some ladders. I also discovered the cross piece on one of the bits was too close together; the hatch cover that goes between it wouldnt fit. I had marked everything out and then cut to the wrong side of the lines...............sheesh! All fixed now just need to stain. I picked up a bit to rout out for the trunnions on the carriages also, mabe I can get those ready for stain this weekend also. we will see. Thats all the news thats fit to print! More later. Sam

    Rich, Been following along quietly these last few weeks. She is coming along well, the ships boat looks great!. I am in agreement with the others on the pins although I didn't have your foresight to make a jig. Davids advice on the holes is spot on in my opinion; sneak up on it. Once I feel I have a good fit, I have been filing the pins to give the epoxy something to bite. Sam

    Rich, looks good. What was your final method for drilling your holes on he rails? It looks like you got them pretty straight. Sam

    Mr Pucko, I took a quick look at your build, how about a sandable primer? Something like an autobody primer, spray a good coat on sand and reapply a lighter coat. you could use an auto body filler for any minor blemishes sam

    A hex nut! Great thought Rich! The ingenuity on this site never ceases to amaze me I would have taken all day with a compass a pensile and probably a straight edge and it still wouldnt have loked any better. Nice job. If your looking for making sheets of "glass" Davids acetate is your best bet I would think. If your trying to fill in an area like a recess there are liquid solutions at art stores. I used something called Gallery Glass from Plaid Enterprises. It worked pretty good, not great, just pretty good. It was the best I found for filling recesses although it took several applications. My first choice would be the acetate though. Hope that helps Sam Bw, welcome home.

    Mark, Welcome to MSW and the Enterprise Build Club! She is a fun Lady to get to know, but like all relationships the instruction manual is a bit lacking in some areas. I have been building this kit for about 4-1/2 years now (I might even finish it one day ) When I did my planking I used a combination of hot water/steam and brute force - Not recommended, it draws out the Splinter Demons and aggravates the Gremlin. I have never tried the ammonia rout before; it reacts with tannic acid and may darken the wood. Everybody here who has tried it says they have not seen any color change in their experience. Experiment first. Out of the box She builds into a very nice ship, although there are several areas that can do with some TLC. Regardless, enjoy your build time, if/when you have questions there are plenty of members here who will be more than happy to help with advice and encouragement, I know I wouldnt have the build I have today if it wasnt for the people here at MSW.     Rich, I have split many a piece of wood by trying to drill too fast - pushing the bit through the wood instead of letting it cut its way through. In addition to the above suggestions I try to spin the pin vice back and forth letting the cutting edge do the work. Just a thought. Sam

    Carl, I bought barrels sometime back, I forget where. I may try casting my own one day in the future. As far as take away, I do most of the cooking here which means she does most of the cleaning (SCORE!) Most likely it will be left overs and BBQ. I love to make a mess in the kitchen but HATE to clean it up and most take out food leaves me feeling kind of ill lately. Must be the lack of grease in my diet, what was I thinking marrying/living with a YOGA instructor?? Sam

    Russ, I dont know about anybody else but the "tedium" doesnt bother me at all. I enjoy watching the process, it helps me learn. and they look pretty darn good to me, even better when I think about how small they are. Sam

    Enjoy your trip. Admirals are funny about some things I have discovered. Mine is pretty easy going, just dont mess with her knitting! You can remember 50% of the time? Whats your secret? I sometimes forget I have a garage.... Buy the admiral something nice while your away. Sam

    I understand makeup tables are great finishing centers. Paint dryers, curling irons - errr plank benders, paint bushes, weathering powders.......... The bow looks great Rich. The seats are a great addition. Think of the eduction your getting in problem solving and engineering with Constructo. Some places charge thousands of dollars for that, your getting it for the cost of a kit........ I'll go back to my corner now...... Sam

    Carl, the masts dont bother me although maybe they should since I have never done one before. Actually the carriages are a bit of a chore, 14 repetitions. I don know that I will ever build anything much bigger than 20 guns, I dont do well with repetition. Which is why I spent so much time figuring out how to mass produce things like trucks, trying to make 60 round disks about .25" in diameter would have caused a subdural meltdown! The better half is going away for a few days this week leaving me alone with the animals and my build, there just might be some real progress by this time next Sunday. silly woman - good thing there is a dishwasher here.........     Hmmmmm 1/2mm. At 25.4mm to the inch thats just shy of 1/64" Even if you were off I think it looks great! well done. Now get planking, the gnomes are getting restless. Sam

    Vivian, nice work as always, great to see you building and posting again. You can never have too much light at your work station. I have two 250 watt CFL on my bench plus the light on my visor as well as 4 50 watt bulbs in the ceiling light and sometimes I feel I need more. Sam
