  1. I like your rope coiling jig. Will have to try that when i get to that point. I had tapped brads into a block of wood but it was very clumsy. I am learning that taking time to make a good jig for repetitive tasks is always a good idea.
  2. I broke a bow sprit on a model, I think it was my AL Harvey model. Glue and wrapping with heavy black thread made it look fine. An “at sea jury rig”. 🙂
  3. She continues to look better and better, John, as she nears completion. I miss working on my models. But we are in a condo in Myrtle Beach until the new house is finished. On the up side, we got our first COVID vaccinations.
  4. Looking great John. I expect it will be April or May before I can get back to my Morgan. Everything is all packed up and we’ll be moving out in a couple of weeks. But in some ways it’s been nice to take a break from modeling. ron
  5. here are a couple shots of my Essex, taken around 2006
  6. I purchased my Essex in 1968 give or take. The “instruction booklet” was about 4 pages. Like 1 8.5 by 11 sheet cut into fourths. It said something like “here is a bunch of wood. Shape the hull, use dowels for masts, and thread for rigging. Good luck”. I marched along very slowly as best I could. In the 80s MS produced a very nice instruction book which helped greatly. In fact I ended up undoing some things and making it better. I also coppered the hull (I had painted it greenish and was not happy with that.) Moving along, I was still rigging it in the 2000s. I finally finished so 40 years after I started.
  7. The BBB website lists multiple complaints similar to the above.
  8. Real nice work John. I have not touched my Morgan for weeks with moving preparations. So much to do😬. I think I may pack her up for the duration.
  9. CDW, you could open your own hobby store! 😳. I am a rank amateur stash-wise, I’m sure, with 3 plastic kits and 3 wooden ships in the wait list!
  10. I guess not actually sold, but delivered to a new owner.
  11. In between selling our current house and buying a new smaller place, not much is happening in the shipyard. And I expect that progress will be very slow over the next few months. I’m afraid I may have to sell off some of my stash because of lack of room in our new home. 😬. Anyway, I did manage to get the mizzenmast in place.
  12. I thought it would sell quickly on this forum. After all where would you find so many modelers? I will be happy if someone builds it and has fun. Anyway, I do have someone interested and I need to check on postage.
  13. Does someone want the Spray for the price of postage? I have more kits that I can build in what is left of my lifetime and i already have built a Skipjack, so this ship is a bit of a duplicate. Ron Gove aka Papa
  14. The kit seems to be of excellent quality, and your work is exemplary . Beautiful model.
  15. Just for information, I jury rigged my own box and shipped to Florida to a good home. Final cost $63 plus some (a lot) of packing tape and bubble wrap
  16. If you want a real challenge find an old Model Shipways “Yellow Box” version of the Essex.
  17. I decided to step the masts to test the angle of the shrouds before getting back to the various roofs. Just a tad more sanding on the mizzenmast to get the square section to the required dimensions.
  18. Thanks. I’ve never been successful with an air brush. I probably need a good instructor; but you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.
