Looking very good. You used exactly the same way that I use to plank my gun ports lids. Best way by far. The weathering looks amazing. Is this done by a weathering kit?

Annnd done. Have got the drawings out for fabrication of the yards. Just looking and studying them at the moment.
-
Finally. All of the shrouds and ratlines on all 3 masts are complete. Finished off the top fore mast shrouds and ratlines. Now the last little bit left on the bowsprit mast and a couple more lone lines and all standing rigging complete. Another milestone is not far off.
-
Make sure you complete each step as you go. As after installing other rigging lines it can be hard and fiddily to go back and finish areas off.
-
Can't wait to finally finish the standing rigging. Be good to move onto the running rigging. Not as repetitive. Fabricating the yards will be a welcome change.
-
My cat seems to think she is helping. Moving reels of rigging line around and the such. Haha I have finished the fore top mast ratlines and currently working in the futtock shrouds for the last set of ratlines on the top. Progress is slow but moving at least.

Well not much has been going on as of lately. Just still rigging ratlines and repairs to the stern lanterns that my cat knocked off. The standing rigging is almost complete. It's taken awhile.

Hey there guys. Sorry no posts for a while. Have had some non-ship related matters to attend to but all is well now. Just been rigging some more deadeyes for the fore mast tops and the deadeyes for the bowsprit shrouds. Will hopefully have up some pics soon.

Holidays are almost over so I'll be back in the ship yard soon for an update. Can anyone from Australia direct me in the right path for a small air brush compressor to purchase. Thanks.

Help with measuring
S.Coleman replied to 1213brett's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
For transferring measurements like gun port distances and the like I use porporntinal dividers. -
Great start. This is a massive undertaking!! You plank in pretty much the same manner that I do. Good job.

Nylon looks good to me but, I'm thinking about how well glue will soak into the line. It soaks in real well with cotton but I'm not too sure about this. (White glue im meaning, Not CA)

Im sure ages of sail have one left. They are the be only place I have seen it advertised as of late.

What a great job. This kit would certainly of helped you with getting an understanding of wooden ship building. I use beeswax on my rigging lines as it removes that fluffy fuzzy look. Good work.

Thank you Peter! she is a great ship to build. Better be in quick as there are only a very limited number of these kits left.
-
Thank you for your kind words Steve. I do know what you mean about the box photos. They do look rushed and tacky and old, But the model you build out of it is so much better looking. Some of my photos look blurry as I do all of my model ship worlding on my phone. Thanks for looking in.

Well guys. I'm off on holidays tommorrow so won't be any posts of the Friesland for about a week. But I have Model shipworld on my phone so I'll still be reachable. Here is today's progress. More ratlines on the top of the main mast and more ratlines on the top fore mast.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
