Planking disaster
Knocklouder replied to sgrez's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
I wouldn't use contact cement. After your hull is filled and sanded , I would brush a coat of wood glue, thined 25% - 30% water. Then when planking a good coat of wood glue. This is what I do, other's have there way. It looking good though Bob M. -
You are one amazing fellow, I just showed this to the First Mate and she said, wow is he ever talented. I agree, Bob M.

I use the same stuff, and found it does chip a bit. So what I did was after they were blackened , and dryed, I spray a coat of High Heat Babecue paint, it works for me. Knocklouder

Great work Congratulations , yes protect your work, it is fantastic. Some like to clean their models . I don't like dusting lol so bought a case for some, they have been under plexiglass for two years now no dust on them, yours doesn't have to be this big, it was a few hundred bucks to get made, but one for just one ship won't be that much i also have 6 in this case. A display case keeps your work well proteced . Great work. Bob M.

Awesome work my friend, your work is truly inspirational, when I see your work it drives me to do better. Lately, many times I ask myself, what would Keith do. That's why I got another river boat, and I do hope you get a Harreit lane, we can a group build lol. Just floored at the dollar picture, Awesome. Bob M

Work area pictures only
Knocklouder replied to Johnny Mike's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
This is my little part of the world, my shipyard. Most of the thinking goes on in this chair, To the lright of that is the work bench with the serving machine on it, ready To be put away till the next build. On the other side of the room is one of my display cases, I have another upstairs with 5 finished ships in it. and finally in this corner the paint booth. That's my shipyard Bob M.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
