  1. Searching for "coopering" solution - part No 2 Next question is - how to do that, so I started with experiments, rather than finish planking Impatience thing, again So, here are first tests, done on spray cover coloured with black acrylic. I am not sure about colours represented on pictures, they are not the same as in nature. HTC Wildfire camera in bad light conditions take what she wants and mix colours as she want, add to this reflections, and colours on pictures above are not accurate as in nature Tile by the tile, reflection killed by ligh coat of thined glue. I do not like it, seems so messy Same as No 1, but with light "redish" transparent layer. Also do not like it Maked as "molding", rivets signed from outside. Better, but to shiney. Vertical edges are not visible enough Same as No 3, but with light "redish" transparent layer. Maked as "molding", rivets signed from inside, also vertical edges, this time visible. To much shiney Same as No 5, but with light "redish" transparent layer. Obviosly, more tests must be done
  2. Searching for "coopering" solution - part No 1 While considering colour aspects, always is present problem discused earlier ( light conditions, settings of camera and monitor, etc etc.) Problem is more delicat when considering metalic colours,or colours of metal which reflect more outside influences Analyzing pictures of CS, I concluded that colour of the coopering is rather something betwen gold and zync, mostly "hang" to something as dark dirty yellow gamut , as on pictures above I think that reddish shades and reflections which appear on some pictures, as on second photo are there as reflection of sunset or sunrise. So, my journey in searching for adequate material and colour was narrowed in two directions: 1 - I dont like colour of natural cooper whic can be ordered online, and I like it is not adequate to upper pictures. It must be something which more seem as zync 2 - such metal foils are very very hard to find to be possible to manipulate. I find something similar 0,1 mm thin, but so hard and solid and very difficult to work with. And solution must be some other material with adequate colour And here is what I find Colour matches, thin and easy to work with. And very cheap ( 1€ for 0,5 m2) But, too much shiney and reflective
  3. It is evident that I am considerably hooked on ship modeling, and it will keep me as long as hands and eyes used to be usefull. From this point of view, sometimes I regret that I did 30 year break before returning. All generals are smart after battle. Throughout the process, I'm quite surprised at the relative speed of gaining experience, training and their application. To the devil, I feel I can do this much much better, only to find patience somewhere. And extra tools. And extra time. So, thinking: If I had this mess 25 years above with some other model, I could make fine model 20 years ago, really nice model 15 years ago, some better models 10 and 5 years ago, and with Citty there will not be such a problems. And I am in love with Cutty Sark, dont you see ? And a all presence feeling that you did something you can do better ... So, I am reading lessons to myself To hard to myself ? My life story. Whole life I am rideing on my shoulders, hammering spurs in flanks and twisting my ears to go on, to go fast, to go better and better Last few years, after little a bit of medical problems ( nothing serious) I come to my mind, and often said to my self: Chill out, man, be cool, be cool be cool. You'll make it all, with or without anxiety, and better without. Be aware that somewhere around the corner waiting in ambush hearth attack or brain stroke, and you smoke so much ... But, human nature is human nature, and relicts of earlier habits stays, and sometimes jump on surface Notices are reflection of this, and also reminder for me for next building, and warning for beginners not to do same things
  4. Thank you, Bruce I follow your work, and share with you love to the most beautifull things people make for sea in a whole lifetime of earth No one and nothing can compare with full spread sails set on Her proudly riding the wind
  5. And it is time to reap the benefits of succesfully finished homeworks First finished main deck. Some grand canyons appears betwen strips, but I hope that sanding and next coat of paint + weathering will cover it on acceptable way. I have learned something, and of course, have to pay price of unexperience, and impatience. Nibbing must be done simetricaly, at same time at left and at right side, with measuring and shapeing pieces from bot sides to be simetrical. I didnt, and when I saw, it was to late. There is no way to do it third time. I think ( and hope) that all will be OK, considering in mind what I intend to do with two further layers of transparent acrylic After I finished main deck richer for that experience, I climb careffuly on front deck, carefully and slowly planing each step First, edge moldings I do not think should especially note that on whole main deck, and even in this part of the fore deck, the fact minimal but present is the consequences of the lost hul adn deck lines, and mild asymmetry of bulwarks on the front deck. Curvatures at the aft edge of fore deck cant been corrected without loosing symetry of central plank line. You can see it reflecting by different height of veneer plank on the corner of the square cut. Fortunate is that there are a lot of interesting details to be mounted there admiring glances. And sails, of course Another observation: really need to be a master modeler to cut and handle even single piece of veneer strips, to be exactly the same length and width. I am obviosly - not. Again old story: thick and thin 3 mm. Generaly, I am satisfied, it looks much better than main deck. It looks good, at all. Question stays forewer - if I could do it more precise and meticulous ? But, it is done, and Her Majesty purrs like a kitten once again Looking arround myself, I realised that whole four working hours whized away fast as F-16, and I have mounted only couple of strips... Whuh ! Time to join Admiral, and to think about (un)important question - to shave my beard or not
  6. Geoff You are generaly right, my friend. Approaching 55+ we need as much physical activities as we can do. And office work is not in that direction. So, outside homeworks fit well. I like to work in a yard ... sometimes ... Honestly, considering I am living in a house near 30 years, today, if you put me to live in a flat, it is the same as put me in a cage. In my post was a little joke about spices (again - spice!) of marriage life - Me and Admiral have different sense WHEN something has to be done. That is only problem, if it is problem at all. Marriage diplomacy. Work "hard" befor dinner = leave me on my own after dinner. Bindy I ordered from Hothead to project some bridge for you
  7. Who said that only ship models have to be warnished? Here is example of warnished backyard Listening ELP sympho rock during shapeing and after polishing second layer
  8. Her Majesty will be patient... Mark, please tell Her this. She ignored me
  9. 13:54 local time Bindy, where are you ? Your car will stay unwashed. Closeing time arrives. 30 minutes left. If you come now, there will be extra Lazagna for lunch
  10. Carving is not only one challenge. Rather say in mathematic way = challengechallenge
  11. Michael, I usualy take two to three hours almost every day. Thats my sedative. But, there are days when you are just not master of your time, rather somebody`s puppet on strings, and dance as music plays even you do not like it or do not how to dance. Speaking of dancing ... I was born with "two left legs", and as natural misfit for dancing of every kind. Playing footbal ... do not know what to do with legs. Basketball ... can hit four in line standing, but when must run with ball, ... comedy. I do not know how I learned Aikido anyway. Swiming, ok. But was born with some kind of goldeen hands ( for almost everything exept water pipes - always make flood, and in two occasions I used to sink floors below ) and know to fix almost everything in house. My friend joked me that I am missed and lost enginier ... Come home lately (emergency call from one of my clients about possible strike of his workers on monday) and rather watch TV than go down. As I said, who is master of my life ? This evening, my master is Suleiman the Magnificent
  12. Ah, old everlasting modeller question Triple "A" rule Artistic or Accurate Approach keep good work Nenad
  13. No problemo, just drive tomorrow at 12:00 to Belgrade, I ll be waiting with garden hose, sponge and chamois leather, some wax etc etc. My dog will make you company `till waiting for car. And Adrian, of course And Admiral too For kids I am not sure, I do not have idea where them will be Just take some wine from Il Leudo ...
  14. Thank you friends for your kind and supporting words, I really need them in relatively hard times on job. This is not the wailing, and I do not need any "sorry" words, only want to explain reasons why my sense for humor sometimes fails. It seems that only, for me on unacceptable way, by corruption and political connections you can do something in this f... country. It is wide spread, it spreads like cancer, but this is generally sick and abnormal that one who make his own business on market 30 years, pay taxes and full state budget, live with much more problems and difficulties than somebody who work as a petty officer in some government and semi-government institution, get his wages from that same state budget, and work effectively 1-2 hours a day, getting his job only because he is a member of political party. Nice example - one of the state company, which repair streets have 1500 employees and 45 engaged lawyers in internal law service, getting their wages from budget. 30 years I work on company law field, and know very well that me, and eventually 1-2 experienced lawyers more, can fully cover whole work they have to do. In this country - who cares about that. If you go there and eventually suggest same solution for general manager, do you know what will be answer ? "Yes, we can cooperate, I really need somebody with your knowledge and experience, I am not satisfied with my stuff, they do not know anything, but I can not fire anybody, and, of course, 10-20-30% of your bills are mine". That 10-20-30% is all that is important. Unbelievably. Sometimes I wish never to exit from upper mentioned blanket Happy news. Princess (my daughter) pass her last exam with 10, only 4 to go, and her medical study will be over when she finish her clinical practice! Doctor in house ! WOW. Hothead himself, week from now has his last exam, after that have only to defend the thesis, and he will got his bachelor degree of architecture This counts !!! My log is wide open, and you can use everything you want from it everywhere you want Writing a book ... hmm ... I didnt think on that way till now ... maybe one day when this journey finished ... I think that in Serbia nobody will be interested to bye such a book. In other countries, maybe, but my English .... ha ha ha. Just remember mish-mash in one of the earlier post with wrong usage of word "bear" instead "beer" ... Thanks to music and internet, I read english without dictionary, understand spoken lanquage almost all, write in english with great help of sometime stuppid Google translate, and speak english as a Tarzan`s ape. People fall down under the table laughing when listening me speaking english by phone. This is not joke, this is true ! Some years ago I was on business meeting with some domestic business man and investor from east germany. My client speaks little german, little english and little russian, I "speak" english, and investor speak german, little russian and little english. At the end they ask me kindly not to speak in english, so I speak on serbian, my client translate to russian english or german, investor speak on german, russian and english, and my client translate to serbian. That was comedy. Lets come back to "terrific" planking issue. I hope this weekend to finish all decks. We`ll see what life and Admiral plan for next 2-3 days to spice my life. Grass cutting is somewhere, I am quite sure. Car washing also. My thoughts are already focused to next steps - coopering or pin-rails. Also thinking about Her stand ( temporary or final), I suppose time for this comes soon Spice flows, isn`t it ? See you around, folks
  15. What a collection of clamps ... and models ... I like Her ... I suppose during working you listened in background "Half-moonlight sonata" from L.W.Beethoven or a half of "moonlight sonata" first or second part Nenad
  16. Good and precise work, Robert. It is a pity that close-ups are not clear Your pictures #1 and #2 put me in the blue ... I saw behind scene words " elevation of inside ..." and this remember me .... Anyway, go on! PS Do you plan eventually to try to get teak colour of pin rails and panel section on any way ?
  17. Little progress on main deck re-planking. Not bad, but it can be better. On the next model
  18. Bob, some pictures are missing from your log. Will you be kind to repost them ( via edit-full editor) ? I know, long and booring job, I have just passed it
  19. Thx, you are all very kind, but I know my frontiers and limitations, and where is lack of patience or lack of skill Anyway, I think that Bob's stanchions look more realistic and more in scale. Also his inner bulwarks are more clear and pedantic with more correct rivet strips Also see Luca's log, it promise very much When experimenting, I rather bring decisions by application of the criteria if result look better, than the result is accurate and in scale. Of course, scale is important, but some nice details can be too small, rather invisible and lost for eyes in accurate scale. My stanchion wire is little thicker, rivets are almost doubled, rivet strips thick too, rings are too large, and when I painted them white in whole white base in experiment I did, and saw what a nice shadow them show, decision was made, because on that way them are "bolded/underlined" and attract attention. In my opinion, the truth is somewhere in the middle of corect work to scale, and aesthetic view. Depends what ambitions you have with your model, and that is personal thing I am thinking about similar approach when nail holders come to line, but we ll see..... Most important is that we all have a fun PS I hear Her crying for me, I did not visit her today. Again half of hour I try to recharge myself in bed after work in office, somehow it turns to 3 hours of deep hibernation. To me it is enough 20-30 min of naping on the couch in living room, without blanking covering, listening TV and news with one ear and watching it with one eye half closed, and after that I am bright new. And when, as today, Admiral put blanket over me, it is just the same as somebody cover me with mountine full of dreams, and I dive deep in wonderland and can not exit. I layed about 16:15, didnt hear clock alarm at 16:45, wake up at 19:00 and can not rejoin my head with rest of my body until 21:00
  20. Thx Philip Really accidentaly. This is result more of my artistic approach, less than my skill
  21. I have just been there. From time to time I feel little envy to nations with nautical history, where love to the sea and ship modelling is most wide spreaded than in "terrestrial" nations. There is no such a company in Serbia, few attempts, but generaly people here are not much interested, particularly in quality and valuable models. Yesterday I was in one cofee bar where large model of "Cutty Sark" was exposed. Even old Tehnodidakta was 100 x better than this. Something like "that" everybody of us can make in one or two weeks. When one day I visit Split again, I ll looking for your company. I was on Šolta six years ago. And to mention, before our crazy wars, there was no sea except Adriatic Sea and islands to spent holliday. Pitty Keep on with your work, I ll follow Pozdrav iz Beograda Nenad
  22. I agree David, it is a joy to read ( six times, as me did), but if you ask for something more, you stay confused after all six reads Just to mention "Song Of Ice and Fire" ... I have read them all more than six times ... long ago before "Game of Thrones" was produced on HBO ... and can not wait any more for "Winds Of Winter" ... Lazy lazy lazy R.R.Martin drive me crazy Also read whole R.Jordan`s "A Wheel of time" serial couple of times, but not so good as SOIAF So another favourite quote "...you know nothing Jon Snow ..."
