My friends, I see that there are some builders who put a memorial in this build log. Popeye has opened a topic in shore leave as a memorial to Augie named Augie Bruno. Please use that topic for expressing your feelings and not this build log. We will thank Moonbug for the task he is willing to do. I know that there are a few builders who are using this build log as a guide. So please, let it be a build log. Thank you all. Sjors

Congrats Grant ! it's a beauty and be proud of what you have done. Thanks for the journey . I think that whenever I do a scratch, I'll be taken this one to start with. But the level that you are showing us should be difficult to reach. Sjors

The shrouds and lanyards on the mainmast are also done ! Now I go the the for mast and then I will start on the stays.... It goes slow but it is going I also have done one ratline on the mizzen mast. Just to see if I still know how to do the clove hitch. The box with the rigging Gnomes was standing in front of me and every Gnome was dancing and cheering and happy because they thought they can work further on it...... To bad for them.....they still have to wait !!!!!!! Sjors

Thanks all and also for the likes ! @ Jason, I was looking at post #893 to see what you mean and you are right I think that one knight is looking for a castle or a damsel He is gone ! I think when we are moving he is falling of his place. I will see if I can found him otherwise I will send Caldecraft an E-mail to see what they can do for me. But you have sharp eyes !!!!!! And thanks for the tip about the "flying" Pendants........ And then a question.....what is the purpose of those Pendants ?????????? Sjors

The chain and dummy gunport lids on the stern are on it. Now I can start the rigging.... The first shrouds and lanyards are on the ship . Also done the pendants on the mizzen. It was a long time ago that I did shrouds so it takes time before it was right. Re-do it 3 times before I was satisfied. Now I can go to the main mast..... Sjors

Yes Jason, I'm meaning served...... I have take a look at the book Rigging period ship models by Lennarth Petersson and from what I can see is that the first shroud is served. I have the book in front of me now and you are right, not the first shroud on the mizzen...... I can see it on the mainmast and foremast I know that I have make a few mistakes on the San Ildefonso, I want to avoid that. Now I'm also seeing that I start on the right side with the first pair and go to the left. Sjors

Thank you all very much !!! Bob, I will do it your way and if it is not working...........I'll be on your door step Dafi....first the pendants....then the shrouds and then the stay's !!!! Next question...... The first shroud has to be totally ( how do you call it ) seizing ?????????? The rest of the shrouds only to the caterpillars ???? Is this making sense ???????? It looks if I 'm rigging for the first time Sjors

Ok, No update , only a answer to the things that has been said about the Half Moon...... She will NOT make a new model again..... Anja is to busy with work and other things..... Maybe somewhere in the future but not at this moment . The Hannah is still in the box and she will stay there for a long time. When I have the feeling that I'm capabel enough to make her I will do it. But first a few other projects....... That brings me to the next question. I'm almost ready to start the rigging of my Aggy. What should I do first.... Shrouds or stay's ? And when I make the shrouds , what's the best way. Foremast and then to the back or Mizzenmast and working to the front ????? Let me know what you are thinking. Sjors

Thank you all for your comment !!!! And the likes @ Ulises, You can not say it enough @ Jan, Yep, almost rigging time I hope that my drawings for that are better then those from OcCre ! @ Frank, Thanks but that shelf is not the final place for her when she is finished. There is another shelf on the other side of the room and that will be her place. @ Greg, Thank you very much !! @ Crackers Thank you but can you make it 70 % instead of 100 % ???? @ Harmut, Thank you Nice picture between the leaves of your Aggy !!!!! You can use that as a screensaver !! @ Betamale, Welcome on board !!! Take your time to read everything.....you will need it ! @ Mark, Thanks. She has her teeth but not her sails....there are no sails ...... @ Popeye, The rigging spiders are all ready running in the workshop. They can not wait till I start rigging but they have to ! First work.... @ Piet, Yep, the fun begins ! For the Halve Maan of Anja you can wait for a very long time..... Unfortunately when we are moving a few months ago, there was a misunderstanding with one of the guy's who help us. We had a few boxes that has to go to the new home but accidentally the box with the Halve Moon was on the wrong side of the room..... You can guess what happened........ @ Bob, Thanks. We will see how the rigging goes. I know how to tie ratlines....done a few a while back I want to make money but I don't want to work for it Illegal maybe ???????? Sjors

The masts are complete ! Make all the platforms, painted, rope around it, blocks on it, deadeyes in place, and more of that funny stuff. Bowsprit also complete and on it. And of course everything is dry fit as far that it is possible. Also make the catheads ( forget that totally !! ) Next thing to do a few things that I forget on the hull and stern . The I will start making the shrouds. I know, I have to put the hammock braces and netting on it. I will do that later because I let the netting white. And I'm afraid that they are dirty when i put them on at this moment. And I make the hammock netting on the table and will place them in one piece....... So Piet, you see that I have done a little bit more. I have to work for a living and not retired yet ! That will take 7 years and 9 months from now...... Sjors

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
