Welcome to my log. Sovereign of the Seas was a 17th-century warship of the English Navy. She was ordered as a 90-gun first-rate ship of the line of the English Royal Navy, but at launch was armed with 102 bronze guns at the insistence of the king. She was later renamed Sovereign, and then Royal Sovereign. The ship was launched on 13 October 1637 and served from 1638 until 1697, when a fire burned the ship to the waterline at Chatham. Still no updates To busy with other things. Anja still sewing from time to time a little on the nettings. I ask myself .....why do I have nettings ?? And the answer of Anja was.....otherwise they fall off the ship !!!!!!! Pfffffffff When she find the time she will go further on the nettings. I will make a start with the yards or spars or I don't know how you called it. But that's for tomorrow. Enjoy the sunday ( without sun ) !!!!!!!! Sjors

We make a start on the netting. Or should I say that Anja is making a start on those nettings Do not excerpt any progress because it goes slowly. Anja needs another pair of eyes ! But it is working to do it not on the ship. When the first one is ready I will post a picture. In the mean while ,we are working and making preparations for our vacation. Next friday we are away for a couple of weeks. Before that I will try to come online..... Sjors

Thanks for the visit and the likes @ Tomas, I have no money for a better camera. It was the Aggy or the camera.... The choice was not so difficult ! But everyone knows that it is the camera and not my work You can see the difference between picture two and three. @ Bob , Thanks again . @ Pat, I want to be busy but that's over now To much other things are taking my attention. But then it is a bigger surprise to see what I have done ! @ Wayne, Thank you Sir !!!! The Gnomes are on the way to L.A. to Sam. He give them rum so I don't know where they are..... @ Mike, Also thanks. About your question...... I still don't make the nettings for the reason that you are talking about. I'll be making the hammock netting not on the boat but in front of it. I make them complete before they goes to the ship. I'm gonna be using the first planking. The first one is on the bottom ( painted black ) Then i make the brackets on it. Then I take a second plank ( also painted black ) The netting goes between the planks. Then I will sew the nettings on to the brackets and that goes on the ship. I know that it is maybe not the way to do it but I find it strange that the sailors have to walk over the bottom of the brackets instead of walking on a plank between the nettings. I hope you understand what i writing. Perhaps you understand it better then me when I'm reading this back Sjors

I'm happy that all the names are on the drawing. So I can tell you what i have done so far. Foremast : Fore topmast stay Fore topmast preventer stay Fore topgallant stay. Mainmast : Main topmast stay Main topmast preventer stay Main topgallant mast stay. Main royal stay. Mizzenmast : Mizzen topmast stay Topgallant stay Mizzen royal stay. Then the main topmast stay and preventer stay tackle Fore topmast stay and preventer stay Then I place two eyebolts on the gratings with pendants to lift the gratings. And when needed they can place the hooks to the small boats and lift them from the ship. This is it for today. It can take a while before the next update because of work and in 1/1/2 week we are away for one week for vacation to the South of France and when we are back we still have 2 weeks vacation and go away almost everyday...... Finally I made it...... This was a long journey of reading and trying to understand what you and the others are saying. You've got a lot of help of many builders. Some you have seen in person ! Those meetings are a little to far for us. So we are doing it by your story's. You are doing a great job with your pilot boat. I will follow you further on ! Sjors

Thank you all for visiting this log @ Mike, Welcome back ???? I have to take a look at your log. I didn't know that you are back..... Thanks for the good word. I will post as many pictures as possible when I'm under the way of rigging. Not from every rope I will do but you know what I mean. And if there are any questions.....just ask !!!!! @ Christian, Also thank you !! @ Grant, I want to give them rum but I found a little note that it is saying that they are on the way to SRC ( Sam ) They want to see the city of Angles...... @ Mark, You are right, I have fired the spiders because after the first attempt of rigging I have to trow everything away. So I ask the Gnomes and they are doing a wonderful job. And like everyone else......I only goes for the best @ Mario, Welcome at my log. There is a seat next to Mark so you can talk a little about the good old day's on MSW 1 And thanks @ Pat, Thank you !!!!! About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
