A Claytons update (the update you're having when you're not having an update)! I got the last of the stern frames fitted last week and started work on the transoms yesterday. As the museum was very quiet, I actually got three transoms fitted! Then in the last twenty minutes I ripped out all the transoms and the frame I fitted last week. I said back near the start that I was feeling my way a bit with this model as it"s outside the period I'm familiar with - I was obviously feeling in the wrong direction as it just wasn't right. Next week I'll have another go and hopefully have a couple of photos to show that I'm now heading in the right direction again. John

Delightful detail, Pat. It's good to see that you're using stud link chain for the anchor cables. John- 993 replies

Is the painting merely an 'artist's impression', or is it based on some historic source? If it's 'six of one and half a dozen of the other', my personal preference would be for the 'stepped' look. John

Hello Nick, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. You've already got some very good advice, but I'd add that you might like to start your own build log. That way we can enjoy your progress and you have a platform for asking questions and advice as you go. John -

The same, I think, Greg. As you walked off to look at the museum I thought, "Oh, Greg from Admiralty Models." I can only say in my defence that I had been a little distracted that day. John

A little more progress. The forward cant frames are now all fitted and I've started fitting hawse pieces - hopefully they'll all be on next Monday. The problem at the moment is School Holidays! There are lots of visitors in the museum and I'm doing far more talking than model making. Of course if anyone shows any real interest I tell them about this amazing international forum of model makers that I know of! John

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
