  1. Bob, I've never heard of a 'score block'. There is no reference to such a block in Paasch's 'Illustrated Marine Encyclopaedia' (1890), Admiralty Manual Of Seamanship Volume I’ (1915) or Wilson-Barker's 'Elementary Seamanship' (1896). As Druxey suggested, I think I'd simply go with internally stropped blocks. John
  2. That looks a very interesting little ship, Bob - she'll make a fine model. John
  3. Just saw the completed model when we got back from holidays - delightful work, Bob. John
  4. Just catching up after having been away for a while, Mike. She's really looking beautiful. John
  5. Hey, happy birthday, mate! by the way, what are 'steamers'? John
  6. That wheel really looks first class, Cathead. I hope you're taking some photos of your model to show to the people at the museum. John
  7. Thanks, one and all. When I look at her lines I find it hard to picture these being built as knock-about working boats. John
  8. Finally took a few photos of the Pritt with a few coats of Poly on the hull. I like the finish! Progress will be even slower for a bit as I research deck details of the ship and then build them. John
  9. Boy, she's really coming along, Popeye! Looking first class. John
  10. Thanks, peter and Janos. Yes, Bob, I agree. You get the hull finished and suddenly there's a ship in your hands. John
  11. Thank, Michael. I have to agree with you that they were very pretty craft. John
  12. Tom, You're asking about two distinct operations. Do you want to know about the set of the sails to heave to - that is, to stop the ship's motion through the water, or are you looking for details of the rig used to launch and recover a ship's boat? John
  13. Just catching up, Chuck. She continues to grow into a really first class model. John
  14. Work on the 'Pritt' has been very slow of late. On my last couple of visits to the museum I've spent most of my time entertaining relatives rather than model making, however she's now reached the stage where the basic hull is complete and she's been brought home to receive a few coats of wipe on Poly to protect her as the build goes forward. here are a few photos showing the completed hull - I'll post some more once she's got some finish applied so you can see what she looks like then. John
