    Thanks Pete and David. "Are you going to stain or paint her?" Ah yes that's the big question. She's a Coast Guard ship whit a steel hull that was probably painted Navy gray. Steel, hum, that means no wood grain showing doesn't it. Hum. Well hopefully it will be a surprise, Maybe to me as well. Ah yes, just like a Zen master, I never know the end results until it happens.     I do almost everything in bass. Where strength is needed I use ply and I may use other woods for trim. But Bass is the wood I use most. Bob

    Tom, Welcome aboard. I went from drafting board to AutoCAD in the early 80's and then to SolidWorks in the mid 90's. When I came back to AutoCAD in retirement I had to learn 2D all over again. Ah the joys of ageing a lot of things are new again. Bob

    Thank you Nils but it looks like the hull is welded except for the bow post. The main deck house and rails are riveted and the top deck is wood. Bob

    While at Michael's you should have asked for "seed beads" they are the little glass beads that are made into bracelets and such using a loom. Bob

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build.
