That is a problem I had when I built my schooner. Chapelle had a couple in his book, "The American Fishing Schooner" and I hound a couple others on the web but no two were alike. I also read an account where a new captain took over a ship and changed the belaying points. I am not sure there was a written "STANDARD" for belaying. But each boat was kept the same throughout it's voyage. Bob

You can also use thin strips and laminate the frames instead of bending a thicker piece. as for offsetting a line to match the thickness of the planking and frame, I do it all the time. Bob

I was wondering how you were going to do the plating around the rudder and props. And of course, you did a marvelous job. Bob

What a lovely boat. I'd be proud to drive around the lake and pick up the girls. Bob -
I do the same as Ed and Frankie except I use a hand crank drill to give me more control of the amount of turns per inch of cable. Bob

Ah yes, LIFE. It always jumps up and gets in our way at the most inappropriate time. But even modeling without the distractions would, just like being with the admiral while she tries on clothes, get boring. Bob

What a good method for getting the shape of the odd shaped metal plates. That's another one for my "HOW TO" box. Bob

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
