Time for a small update. Didn't want Andy to sail off without some fond memories. We have ventured into the realm of running rigging (the brown stuff) with the installation of the spanker boom and gaff. Their addition has certainly filled out the stern. It was a little hard getting the right background but I think you'll get the idea. She has now reached her full LOA. Will be moving forward now with topmast halliards, etc. before we get to YARDwork .

It was a very specific brand of suntan lotion as I recall Ben. But I'll never forget a suggestion that was offered up by Larry (?) that was perhaps the most unusual I've ever seen...... it involved subjecting the hull to a certain bodily fluid ! No photographic evidence of the trial was ever presented

It looks as if your Lady is sailing through the remnants of a Tsunami! I trust your real-life voyage goes well and look forward to your return

Dan- CA glue does NOT fail over time unless it is not applied correctly to begin with. I have been using it for over 20 years on RC model aircraft which take a LOT more stress then our ship models and have never had a stress failure. In fact close scrutiny of the damage caused by unanticipated ground contact (AKA crash) indicates that the wood itself will fail before the glue joints.

Looking fine! Yes, breaking out the old 1/4" drill for the rudder post is pretty scary as I recall. . Glad you got it right! Copper looks great. If laquer thinner doesn't work for you, try acetone. Dry CA removal is tough though. By the way, it's been a little over a year since I laid my copper and it IS darkening.......albeit slowly. Very well done.

Well done, Sjors!!!!! Lots of gold decorations make her look formidable to the enemy. You can scare them away ---- until they find out about the cotton cannonballs . Longboat looks great, much better on deck than sitting under the Dremel worktable. She's shaping up!!!!!!!!

Good call Mobbsie. A little filler, 2nd planking and copper should bring her in (out) like a piece of fine furniture. Going to be spectacular. Nelson himself would be proud of you

Now appears to have only one mast. Maybe the masts are 'floating' ..... I've heard some do this.

Stick with it Andy. We've all faced the 'take the square stick, make it round, now turn 1/2 of it into an octagon' routine. It's part of the fun

Mobbsie........ I'm not sure I see the dip but if I do, it's symmetrical. I'm sure you're happy the 1st planking is complete. But more importantly, congratulations on your promotion

Hang on a second. In checking on the last photo update here (see page 4), I notice the distinct absence of masts. Now I'm still new at this, but I would think tying ratlines without masts would be a formidable challenge. Please advise
-
RATLINES ......... I LOVE ratlines. As long as someone else is tying them. Don't forget that microscopic dab of glue on each one (x's 5-10,0000).

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
