  1. I agree with Roger; real gilding appears too garish at scale sizes (at least, to my eye and taste).
  2. Oh, my! There seem to be a lot of MSW modelers' work falling off workbenches lately. There must a disturbance in the Force.... Great recovery, Daniel.
  3. Bitt pins that pass through more than one deck will vary in length to fit your particular model. Unless you can build with micrometer precision, every model will vary slightly from the ideal.
  4. That looks good. You may wish to consider the grain of the wood you plan to use: it is weak across the grain and liable to break. Ideally the frames should be of more than one piece with the grain oriented for strength.
  5. If it's any consolation, your first model is bound to include many 'oopsies',. That is part of the learning process, as is correcting those oopsies. As mentioned, you can always ask for replacement parts. Also, consider using clips and elastic bands rather than using fingers to hold things while they glue.
  6. If their usage has been somewhat superseded by others, they are the inspiration for those that have come since, myself included.
  7. Whoever might be interested: there are many, many large sheets of plans in meticulous detail. Get them while you can! It's very generous to offer these for the cost of postage only, Bruce.
  8. My ropewalk is constructed from vintage Meccano gears. It's hard to believe that the funnnel/superstructure is as small as it actually is. Super work, Eberhard.
  9. Kevin: I took jewelry lessons some years ago and it was the best thing I could have done to learn to work metal properly. I learned how to cast, silver solder, form metal and many other tricks. Bonus: my wife got a cast white gold ring and silver repoussé necklace out of it. You can't lose!
  10. The only 'safety factor' at night is that the coamings are painted black to contrast with the surrounding deck.
  11. Perhaps a safety-conscious captain might have ordered them rigged with rope 'rails'. Also, the risk of falling down the hatchway was marginally less dangerous than losing your grip on the topsail yard....
  12. Should you find a copy, be aware that, due to a printer's error, one frame on the plan set appears twice and one omitted. The missing frame plan is attached here. Good luck!
