  1. Today, I actually got more time to build than I thought. I started by laying out the rest of the frames. ( for anyone that is new to scratch building , When you use a lines drawing for your plans , You have to subtract the thickness of your planking from the frame's . or your boat will have to much Beam... just throwing it out there ) I then cut them out with an X-Acto knife ( I do not use power tools when I build models, I save that for Full size builds ) I then thought to add the America's Cup logo to the Keel . I then cut out the notches in the Keel and frames, and dry fit them . Next I cut out the deck , I then dry fit all the pieces ( I still have to trim a few frames to deck height) My wife thinks she is very Sleek , and I have to agree. I am having alot of fun with this one . I am off to the Family 4th party. Here are the results
  2. It looks good Michael, you are doing a great job , I will be here when the Shipyard re opens Best Regards, Pete
  3. Hi Dave Been there done that , Best of luck with your decision ( I have had it go both ways ) Best Regards, Pete
  4. Hi Omega, She looks Fantastic you are quite the craftsman to build that small and that accurate . Amazing work Best Regards, Pete
  5. First off , Happy 4th ( there will be a big familiy celebration later ) I am hoping to get some frames cut before I go to the party. Thank you Jay , She has all the right elements, lines, beauty and speed Thank you Geoff, did you take a sicky ? . and a prime minister who was a beer sculling champion. thats Awesome Thank you Michael, I hope she turns out as well as the Herreshoff's Thank you David B., I would like to keep it a simple build , so just the hull . Thank you Michael Mott , There is always room for 1 more Thank you John, I have wanted to build an Americas Cup Boat , since I was a kid . I think Australia 2 is the perfect boat for this build Thank you Omega, I was in high School when liberty lost the cup . I remember watching it on tv . it turned the sailing world upside down . I saw the cup in San diego in 87 after Dennis won it back ( Stars and Stripes The last of the 12 meters) Thank you Keith, for the Awesome photos . its pretty amazing to see them in person , in 92 I saw NZL 20 up close ( its very impressive ) I would love to go to Fremantle Thank you Robert , it should be fun to figure out the wing keel Thank you Tom, The America's Cup has come along way ( I remember when the cup was in court , back in 88 due to a hostile Dead of Gift Challenge ) the races went on, and we defended with a catamaran ( wich was not ever spoken in the same sentence as Americas Cup ) Now look that what the Americas cup has become ( see pic ) Thank you Augie , should be a fun build Best Regards, Pete
  6. I first layed out the Keel with the help of tracing paper and the lines drawing . I then cut out the Keel, and started to lay out the frames and deck. I think this will be a fun build , She's like 65 ft. long ( so I am not just building small boats LOL) Here are the results
  7. With the Buzzards Bay 14 & 12 1/2 proto-type nearing completion , I decided to build the 1983 Americas cup winner AUSTRALIA II KA-6 .( in a 3/16" = 1' - 0" Scale.) This will be a hull only build . When I was a kid, this Boat with all it's inovations gave the America's Cup a wake up call. it kinda ended an Era, soon after, corporate sponsorships and constant rule's changes would be a constant thing .( anyone who follows the Cup knows what I mean) Don't get me wrong I am still a big fan of the America's Cup . This to me is the Boat that shook up the Cup . And is a Boat that I have wanted to build for a long time . So I thought I would squeeze it in before I start the Revised Herreshoff 12 1/2 , Plus it should be alot of fun to build
  8. Thank you Nils , thats the beautiful thing about wood . You dont know how the color is going to turn out until the finish is on it . Thank you Robert , I prefer to make all the parts that I can. The Herreshoff boat's are amazingly beautiful , I hope that I captured that essence Best Regards, Pete
  9. Today, the Boat moved into the fitting out stage. ( one of my favorite parts of a build ) I started by trimming the back deck and installing it . I then made doors for the Bow and Stern cockpit lockers. I then stained and installed them. Next I moved to installing the chain plates for the shrouds ( I found these beading parts at michael's wich are perfect) I drilled holes at the chain plate locations and installed them with epoxy. next was attaching the turnbuckles . I also started making the 2 cleats for the mast. I also started making the double block for the main sheet. in the pic you can see the beading part I used for the chain plate base's. I also installed the rudder with epoxy . ( she will sail straight ) I drilled the hole in the boom for the topping lift and installed a small metal cleat (left over from the lobster smack build) here are the results
  10. Hi Cap'n'Bob, True they do make radio gear that small, however there has been talk about building a 12 1/2 at 1:1 in this house , Hopefully , once the revised 12 1/2 is built ( the next build ) and the boat goes together like on this one did. I can make a step toward 1 : 1 build . so I will hold off on Radio gear for now Best Regards, Pete
  11. Hi Dave they both look fantastic , beautiful craftsmanship , the Mayflower is one of my favorite ships , and you have done an Amazing job on both of them Best Regards, Pete
