Hello Jacques. Welcome to MSW. I know of your log very well as I'm following it quietly since I'm not a member there. You're doing a beautiful build and I'm learning much from you.
-
JR, if you do a log, put it in the scratch area and add the keyword "RESTORATION" at the end of the title. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

That did come out looking great. After the pencil, you apply anything else like a flat clear?

Kickback is always a "not good" thing. I learned to stand off to the side to use the saw and even the mini table saws can cause you body damage if they kick back.

You actually start a log in either the kit area or scratch area depending on whichever one it is. This area is basically just a "meet and greet" type. As for the log itself, once you've determined which area, just look at top of the first page where there's pinned posts to help you with naming, etc.

Welcome to MSW, Martin. Consider a build log for the Cutty and then for Victory. Logs are excellent for getting help and meeting folks.

I think they had the same issues on some of the other rivers as well. Caused a lot of problems during the Civil War.

Have a look at his log. I don't think it was that much work.

The wood cannon came out looking like metal. Beautiful work. Way back before I had a lathe, I did the cannons for the Constellation in brass using a drill and files. Very slow and painful work and in hindsight, I should tried wood.

Hi again, I put an answer in your other post.

Is this a kit or a scratchbuild? If you like, open a build log on her.

Well, there's a couple of choices... one plastic by Zveda. You can also do what Old Collingwood did which was bash or convert another kit over to her: https://modelshipworld.com/topic/19140-black-pearl-by-old-collingwood-finished-172-scale/

Citroen Traction Avant by kpnuts - FINISHED - Heller - 1/8

Shock me up a bit when I saw the first photo and started scrolling down. I thought you had photographed the real thing. It's that good. -
For pirated kits.. have a look here: https://modelshipworld.com/topic/181-banned-kit-manufacturers-on-msw-pirated-kits-prohibited/ Unless there's a box photo and the vendor is Chinese, I wouldn't touch it.

Bell UH-1H Huey By lmagna - Dragon - 1/35 - PLASTIC

Lou, Take a deep breath and back off a bit. The OD looks perfect, just faded enough in "normal" light to show some use. OD is the chameleon of colors and does seem to change depending on lighting, shade, etc. -
Welcome to MSW. You're about as qualified to build a model probably the rest of us when we started. Oh wait.. you're more qualified as the "Master and Commander" movie wasn't out when some of us started.

Welcome to MSW. When you finally chose a model to start, open a build log so that when you have issues, others can help.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
