I'm suspicious of that 2nd picture. I didn't realize this was to be a war wagon. -

I think that's my problem. Sometime back, followed a couple links to Civil War battles and then Civil War sea and river battles which led to nation Wars sea battles and land battles. Now I kind of hooked on the Warfare History Network. I think I need to go into a detox center and break the habit. Or not. -

Full stop right after "ability". This isn't a race, a beauty contest, or a concours d elegance. It's just a hobby. The only person to be satisfied is the builder. You're doing great. Hang in there. -

Chain drive and no brakes. Iron men with nerves of steel back then obviously. -

I suspect the biggest problem with the Spitfire against the Zero was armament. The Spit had only a few .30 cal. machine guns. The Zero had to cannon and several larger caliber MG's. I'm only "suspecting" this as I'm not full in on the details of the adversaries at the time. -

Here's a link to a bunch of P-40 articles: https://nationalinterest.org/search/node/P-40 I've been doing a lot of reading when waiting for glue to dry or other things to happen at that site. They do have articles on the others that we've been talking about also and a pretty good search function. -
Interesting sub kit. You might ask about it here: https://modelshipworld.com/forum/24-wood-ship-model-kits/

Part of the problem and it seem endemic in WWII was that the American pilots going in had little to no combat experience against either the -109 or the Zero. When the early aces started high and diving through the formations with the -40 and then taught it to the new pilots, it worked for them. Later as the -40 evolved and the pilots became more skilled, they learned new tricks and we better able to use the -40's attributes. -
Valid questions for which I have no answer. I'm trying to look ahead (really murky that far ahead) and have made some notes to myself such as matching the drawings and possibly even laser cutting the planks. But I have long way to go before then. This week I'm finally gluing planks to the gundeck and setting up for the ports build.

184 holes... all with the same bit? That would be a record. Call the Guinness Book of World Records.

Dave, Do change your screenname. MSW gets trawled by bots daily and the last thing you'll need is to get spam, malicious emails, etc. from miscreants who use the trawled information.

Looking like it's seen a few miles. Maybe not, some of the French and Italian cars rusted just by someone looking at them. -

That's one of things I'm sorting out at this time. I'm arguing with myself as roughly 75-90% of the gundeck will not be visible. So I'm arguing about how much detail to have. The upper/main deck certainly will be tapered and curved to the best of my abilities. The problem that bothering me is that at 1:64, the ends of the planks at the bow and stern become really narrow. I hope to start laying deck planks this week and then start the framing for the gun ports.

I'd suggest asking this in the research area, Shipman.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
