For anyone in central Missouri, I will be displaying the Bertrand and several other models at the Tigercon 2016 model show in Columbia, Missouri tomorrow (Saturday November 5). I apologize for the very late warning, it somehow never occurred to me that it might be of interest to anyone here, but there are a few folks from Missouri on the forum so I thought I'd mention it.

Omega1234 reacted to Sailor1234567890 in 34ft Danish Cutter by adamdt
Looking good Adam. Too bad you had to sell her. This model will be a suitable memorial to her memory. Did I tell you I have plans for my 1:1 ratio schooner now? They arrived in the mail this week. I can't spend enough time poring over them lately. Kathy's going to divorce me if I don't spend more time with her than these drawing soon.
Cheers.

Omega1234 reacted to crabbersnipe in HMS Argonaut (F56) by crabbersnipe - 1/96th - Leander-class frigate
A few more planks added and also tried my hand a fibreglassing the funnel - resin took a long time to cure but fully dried out after hrs, will be sanding tomorrow

Omega1234 reacted to SawdustDave in Sovereign of The Seas by SawdustDave - FINISHED
King Chuck mounted and ready for a fight.
Guess the figurehead sculpture cleaned up fairly well.
I do not want to hear that the horse looks a little bit like a donkey. That is a camera angle thing I didn't notice until after I posted this pic. I'm just glad I do not have to make a living with a camera.
I also added the little lion laying in front of the steed.
I've got to do some cleaning up and adding some hind paws to that little figure.......looked ok until the camera told me otherwise.
While waiting for the figures to dry, I began hanging the lanteen yard.
Back to a little bit of rigging.... no crows feet on this one.

Thank you very much Mike, Bob and Grant,
for your appreciative comments....
Mike,
a bit of metal work always has to be on my models, I love to use brass where applicable..
Bob and Grant,
am pleased you like the overall pics, shall post some now and then..., in order to illustrate the progress better...

Thanks very much for your kind compliment Rob,
I`m just building for fun and am gaining some experience from project to project, there are always the ideas that come to mind, but I`m trying to consequently finish a model before another is started. Im very pleased that you like it...
Wish you further on much fun with your "Great Republic" clipper, a beautiful build...

Omega1234 reacted to popeye the sailor in Syborn by popeye the sailor - FINISHED - 1:33 - trawler
this week didn't pan out the way I wanted it to. way too much in and out. I did get around to painting the gallows winch frame. there were some holes along the sides of the motor box.....unused since I change the configuration. I cut a couple rectangle pieces of brass sheet {they are small}, dimpled them with a rounded dental bit {to simulate the bolts}, and glued them over the holes. it was painted to match the boom winch, a dark gray.
I still need to touch up the boom winch....maybe add a few more small parts, but I thought to put it in place on the deck to see how it would look. there is plenty of room........I put a control box at the rear of the motor box......I can see that I'll need to add some buttons, perhaps a lever or two.
The gallows winch will be belt driven. I've set the pulleys for the reels.....the crank pulley, you've already seen. the block pulleys have been painted as well....I made seven of them to insure that I have enough. I may need to make a pair of double pulleys......I'm thinking that they may need to be made vertical, rather than horizontal. I'll have to see.
I started to make the conveyors for the receiving bins.........you saw the beginnings of it earlier. sides were made for the template........an outer frame piece was added to the sides, and smaller dowels were added down the center. the smaller dowels will support the belt as it wraps around the end dowels of the template.......it's level with the end dowels.
it was at this time I decided to do a dry fit, and I found that I forgot to make the adjusted ones {which are shorter} and it is too long. I'll finish it anyway............it will be my proto type
the belt is the sail cloth painted flat black
here I go again........I gotta head out I will be back

Omega1234 got a reaction from Chasseur in Great Republic 1853 by rwiederrich - FINISHED - four masted extreme clipper
Nice work, Rob.
The foredeck is certainly looking crowded and 'fit for purpose'. I can't wait until the rigging starts growing, but I understand that that's a long way away.
Enjoy.
Cheers
Patrick.

Oh, she was out on the water just recently. One of our members got to be part of the crew. And they plan to do it again next year, I think.

Omega1234 reacted to popeye the sailor in Syborn by popeye the sailor - FINISHED - 1:33 - trawler
thanks to everyone for your kind comments and who hit the like button I got pulled away yesterday to do a few things to our car...inspect and see what I'd need for some upcoming exhaust work, plug and repair a tire, and took off one of the rear tires, dismounting and mounting another tire on it. I did it by hand, something I used to do when I was young and living at home on the farm. of course, it was easier then......we had the tool for it....a bead breaker.
I did do a little though.........I should have pictures up for it soon
I forgot to acknowledge a post you made earlier John........I do apologize. it pleases me to have such accomplished modelers, like yourself, looking in on my build.......there's some hope for me yet
thanks Pat........that must have been a funny sight to see. I did a comical thing to the Nordkap......there is a picture of Popeye and Olive dancing and a picture of Poopdeck Pappy hanging in the helm room. I did it as a joke for Tom, when I was sending build logs to Billing USA. it still can be seen on the Billing USA website......a condensed build log done by Tom. Roger @ Ages of Sail was kind enough to keep the site up and running. I have been adding extra detail and bashing ever since that very first model...looking back on it, I smile seeing how primitive I was. I'm constantly learning from folks here on the site........though I hope to aspire to the level of those I'm learning from, I just as happy doing what I'm doing and maintaining that 'this can't be it' attitude
hello Piet.........thanks for the good word! glad to hear you got through the hurricane alright.......it could have been a heck of a lot worse. I'm hoping you can find the time to get back into some modeling again.........I miss seeing your work
are you sure you want to do that Patrick?.........your Shadow..........might become the 'dark Shadow' thanks for the good word my friend.......it's all relative to scale......or is it?!?!? the models you build take lots of planning and fitting........the level of detail you add is amazing. we are learning from each other, I think...........and quite pleased to do so

Omega1234 reacted to BANYAN in Syborn by popeye the sailor - FINISHED - 1:33 - trawler
Always room for improvement Denis I sit imagining those two small paintings and smile; I'll have to have a look at that site - The popeye cartoons are still a favourite.
I look at my Endeavour (which I am just finishing) and lament some of the silly things I did back in the early years of the build which later affected the final finish - if we are not improving then we could call ourselves Masters and I have a long way to go before that (not in my lifetime at least )
cheers

Omega1234 reacted to Mirabell61 in SS Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse 1897 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - scale 1:144 - POF - first German four stacker of the Norddeutscher Lloyd line
Hi Michael,
when determining the size of the base I considered the the tilt force on the overhangs that possibly could bring her out of balance, It is OK as is. When she goes into the glass case later on I`ll put some double side adhesive pads between casing base and stand base.

Thank you so much Denis, David and Piet
for your kind words....

Denis,

Piet,
hope you had no hurricane related damages....

Hello Nils,
I'm back and caught-up from early October. We had a little setback due to hurricane Matthew but are more or less at a normal stage now.
What fantastic progress you have made in these few weeks. Marvelous work and craftsmanship. Your model shines and worthy to be displayed in any museum.
Cheers,
