Thank you mark, yep there a challenge all right - have to have them right under the magnifier and with the light even lower. OC.

Thanks for the explanation lou, next project is the mosi building in my late farthers memory, I think a few crew should give the pearl some life. they seemed to become skeletons when it suited them (mainly night time) OC.

Thank you kindly ken, yep the figures at 1/72 scale sure do take some work and good eyesight/steady hand. OC.

Hi all, the parcel man delivered my figures today but first things first I needed to place the three lanterns on the rear bulkhead, then I soaked the figures in soapy water and took one of the spru's - this one is a pirate looking through a telescope, they are made in red styrene but painted up quite well using acrylics and a very fine brush under my magnifier. So one is finished - think it looks ok. OC.

So as the pearl is near finished minus the crew and Jolly Roger flag I'm waiting on, I'm trying to get my head around my painting schedule on the mosi, as i have mainly all tamiya rattle cans for the bulk of the paintwork and a few eqv tins for brush touch ups and small paint details. My concern is not being able to spray indoors and if the weather is the same as we have had of late - rain, that will stop me painting outside, mind you I guess I will have enough sub assemblies and interior work that I can use my hairy stick and tin paints. Cant wait to start. OC.

Thanks lou, I have had a few of those moments over the years with kit building - lost count the amount of times kits ended up in the bin. Thank you for your compliments mate - means a lot. OC.

Not much to shout about - I am working on the three rear lanterns, I have attached the bottom supports and when set I will paint inside an orange/yellow colour then attach the tops and give the outside a brass/weathered look. I have ordered a cloth Jolly Roger flag and also waiting on the pirate figure set to arrive. Just the one pic showing the current stage with the lantern parts. OC.

More progress today - I started by making and painting the rear mizzen cross spar (can remember its name) this was then glued in place, I then turned attention to the upper mizzen yard that still needed its lift ropes making - same procedure as the other yard. I finished off the yard making/fitting by attaching the rear yard ropes/blocks. This finishes all the mast/yards and just leaves the three rear lantens and a skull and crossbones flag. I will give the pirate figures consideration possibly later. OC.

Thank you indeed for saying all that, its so nice to think what I have been building is of interest to the good folks here. OC.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
